Anyways, unpopular opinion: All of Gaga's studio albums are overrated (besides ARTPOP, which is fairly rated). Gaga is, imo, a wonderful vocalist with an average discography so far.

I do sort of agree and this wouldn't be an unpopular opinion outside of the stanbase anyway. The thing is that the more music I listen to the more I realize how much Gaga's discography is held back by her reliance on generic and/or lowbrow EDM beats. The way her vocals have been edited in the past is also a huge issue. Like Marry The Night for example starts off beautifully with Gaga's breath, followed by rich vocals and those shimmering church bells. But the song kind of bottoms out when the run-of-the-mill pounding EDM beat kicks in - which only becomes mildly interesting during the outro - and her vocals during the chorus are so pitched and have all the treble removed from them. That song had potential to be an operatic Art Rock epic or at least a classic Springsteenian power rock ballad, but as it stands it doesn't hold up that well. I could say the same for a lot of tracks on BTW

And on that note I find it strange that she considers Bowie her biggest influence and yet she seems to lack any fundamental understanding of what Art Rock/Pop is, or how important production is to the creative process. The fact that she's mostly worked with electronic DJ's in the past and recorded many of her albums on the road with low quality equipment in a rushed state really shows in the final products. BUT I realize much of this was out of her hands under her old management and that she was a lot younger, which is why I'm not bothered by the long wait for this album.

I view Gaga's music as less special than so many HARDCORE fans do. It's just.. I'm realistic. Gaga relies on heavily repeated (or stuttered) song titles in the lyrics and it's becoming a joke a little now, for me anyways. I just think people overrate her abilities musically really.

Well I think she definitely has the raw talent to be an all-time great popstar - if not necessarily the vision, but the right producer can always help with that - but I think she has compromised a ton in the past for the sake of commercialism/pleasing people and hasn't worked under ideal circumstances. The next album will be really revealing, it could be a genuine classic that goes in a more rock or funk-tinged direction and showcases all of her talents, or it could be a safe Bruno/Adele-esque album with very simple songwriting and production

I don't think that anyone would disagree that she is a wonderful vocalist.

But Gaga was awarded the first ever Icon Songwriter of the Year last year, so you must be the only person in the world with that opinion.

I'd say a "Monster" is probably more sensitive, lol.

Monsters care more. That's what being sensitive is.

Of course but that wasn't the whole point at all

She's written some great lyrics, I'm talking about during the choruses of course

Yeah, this is my point. She has the talent but it hasn't translated in a truly STRONG way. I'd LOVE a rock album from Gaga but saying that means nothing when we know nothing of the songwriting. It all matters to me, the lyrics, the vocals, the production.

Yeah but you called her lyrics a joke. That's a pretty derogatory statement. There's a difference between being critical and being dismissive.

I called the repetitive stuttering of the titles a joke, that is 1 part of the songs. However, when in many songs, it becomes a lot. Don't quote my every post in the Unpopular Gaga Opinions thread for posting exactly that lol
