Gun nuts are laughing at that product. It looks clumsy, slow, relatively ineffective

...because it only holds two bullets and isn't the size of a rifle, not because of the plethora of dangerous implications. Considering thousands have already preordered it, I wouldn't discount the nuttery of gun lovers.

Nope, all the obvious downsides have been talked about on various gun sites.

That product is for neophytes.

"If it can be fired in its "disguised" mode then it's restricted. If you have to manipulate it until it at least somewhat resembles a gun before it can be fired then it's not restricted."

"That is a two shot derringer style pistol in .380 Auto (.380 ACP) caliber. The pistol grip has to be folded own into an obvious pistol configuration to be fired.A concealable pistol that is not immediately recognizable as a pistol in firing condition is a concealable weapon that is not a conventional pistol or revolver and that would be an AOW (like a "wallet gun", OSS pen gun, cane gun, umbrella handle gun, etc.)Now, if someone got the bright idea of cutting holes in the grips to fire the gun looking like a cell phone, that would be an AOW. The folding grips should include a safety block to save such folks from their own cleverness."

"The average user isn't intent on shooting them as a primary self defense weapon. It's a collectable, same as switchblades and push daggers. Bicycle guns, SPETZNATZ shooting blade knives, cane swords, tiny fold up derringers that can actually shoot. "

Looks like the average gun nut is defending it.

Does it matter who it is for? It can be used to kill. The time to make it "an obvious gun" is irrelevant if it can be snuck in to places where the people don't know that a gun can now be folded.

Yeah, it's a gun that looks like something else, just like pen guns or cane rifles. Some places have laws against them and some don't. Nothing new here.

I should know better than to enter this thread. The fact that you perceive this kind of weaponry as remotely acceptable goes to show how hilariously skewed gun nut logic is.

I'm sorry. I'll let you discuss the glory of guns in peace.

I live in Australia. I have never touched a gun or even heard a gunshot. Gun control in this country has worked. We haven't had a mass shooting since 1996. Crime has not stopped all together, but there hasn't been anything to the scale of Port Arthur since it happened, 20 years ago.

I get to walk the streets knowing and feeling that I am safe. To me, and this is no disrespect to anybody in the US - the fact that you can walk into a K-Mart and buy ammo is absolutely insane. I find it truly heartbreaking that innocent school children have been maliciously murdered in their classrooms. Every child should feel safe in their schools. I saw a previous comment in this thread saying 'it is the person holding the weapon', this is true to an extent, but why make it so easy for these people to have access to these weapons? There needs to be background checks, psychological analysis & extensive research before anyone can own a gun.

Everybody has the right to feel safe in their day to day existence.

Yeah, it's crazy here :duck:

I kind of understand gun enthusiasts. The hobbyists who collect rifles and hand guns and stuff 'cause my dad does that. I've shot a couple guns (almost caved my face in when I underestimated the kick from a 365 magnum at the shooting range sweat.png), you know some people actually do collect these things the same way someone would collect dolls or novelty hats. Those people usually have a great deal of respect not only for their firearms but for the safety of themselves and others.

That all leads me to believe the problem isn't entirely guns. Though I do agree that guns and ammo are way waaaay too readily available in the U.S. It is ridiculous that I can get groceries, a pair of pants, and a hand gun all in the same place :laughga: There definitely needs to be new legislation to control who can legally sell guns and who can legally own a gun. Psych evaluations are a great idea (because, Goosey, the freedom of speech can't kill someone). It's also like Obama said. There are people we don't allow on planes 'cause they're a threat, but they can legally own a gun. What's up with that?

Spoiler

The counterargument to the "gun control" stance is that "criminals don't obey the law, you're only making it harder for law abiding gun owners". If you are a law abiding gun owner, in your right mind, have never committed a felony, and don't have a history of violence or drug use, you're set! If you've done any of that or have been deemed unfit due to your mental state, you shouldn't be allowed to have a gun :saladga: as for the criminals who illegally own guns, we should be allowed to confiscate those weapons (in some states, you can't already) and you should face hefty charges.

There's another part to the whole argument too. The American psyche. We Americans, for some reason, are a violent people. We have a violent culture full of puffing our chests out and "standing our ground" (which is the law here in Florida that allowed Zimmerman to kill Trayvon Martin) and it's caused a lot of us to go right off the deep end. Not so much in a mentally ill way though because that's the b.s. excuse conservatives use to prevent gun control legislation from taking off. There's aren't crazy people shooting up these schools, theaters, malls, and college campuses. They're violent people who abuse a system with way too much slack. That's why 2015 had more mass shootings than there were days in the year.

Just check this out:

"The vast majority of guns used in 15 recent mass shootings, including at least two of the guns used in the San Bernardino attack, were bought legally and with a federal background check. At least eight gunmen had criminal histories or documented mental health problems that did not prevent them from obtaining their weapons." X

Something has to change.

President Biden

(Be sure to read this in a Bernie voice)

I do it for the people. It's not about me, it's about us. It's not about you, it's about the community as a whole. Why must want be at risk of murder because another wants to "exercise" and unnecessary and evil right. It's as if we were to say bullying is ok because of the first amendment. And don't even get me started about those who ignore the cimma in the second amendment when it's about a militia not individuals. That's why we got to ban all guns. It's a revolution

Best One:

2. "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."
If you prefer pithy sayings to hard evidence, I can see why this would be convincing. But if you look at the real world, you'll find that far from being our only hope, good guys with guns are barely any help at all. No mass shootings in the past 30 years have been stopped by an armed civilian; in 1982, an armed civilian successfully killed a shooter, but it was only after he committed his crime.

"Here's a good time to remind everyone that the Second Amendment was written by slaveholders before we had electricity, much less the kind of weaponry that would-be murderers can buy today. But sure, if you think it's that precious, we can compromise: If you love the Second Amendment that much, feel free to live in a powdered wig and **** in a chamberpot while trying to survive off what you can kill with an 18th century musket. In exchange, let those of us living in this century pass some laws so we can feel safe going to class, or the movies, or anywhere without worrying that some maladjusted man will try to get his revenge by raining death on random strangers." -Rolling Stones

The First Amendment was written by slaveholders before we had electricity, much less the kind of technology that would-be reactionaries can buy today. But sure, if you think it's that precious, we can compromise: If you love the First Amendment that much feel free to live in a powdered wig and piss in a chamberpot while trying to send texts with a quill pen.
