If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Have there been any other threads about it? The only songs in her discography i've thought were rape related where "Just Dance", "Monster", and "Swine".

Rape is not something you get over lightly so it makes sense for her to reference.

Monster is not about rape.

You're entitled to your opinion, and I'm trying to respectfully disagree (sorry if it doesn't come off that way), but just because rape is a hot topic right now and gaga had 1 award nominated song doesn't necessarily mean she has rape influence in all her music...

Perhaps, maybe, feel good party songs like just dance and monster are attempting to cover up her sexual abuse, like masking it, but I highly doubt it. If rape has been gagas only influence on her music and writing then I need to reevaluate my stance on her.

Interesting. But no imo. Monster is about being raped tho. And you can hear it clearly :ohno:

Definitely Monster.

I also have a theory about the Marry the Night video.

If Gaga was raped in 2006 that was right around the time she signed with def jam. She even says it in the Captivated live video.

What if one of her producers or partners at def jam raped her, and as a result she got pregnant? She went to abort the baby in the hospital because she felt like it was her fault and thought it would ruin everything she worked for.

But, once she comes home and is told "no intimacy for two weeks" she gets a call from L.A (or someone at Def Jam) and is told she is no longer apart of the label.

Being abused, losing her child, and losing her contract inspires her to take life into her own hands and be the most powerful star on the planet. One who is more powerful than the men who abused her physically and emotionally.

That's more or less what I was referring to. The songs do have a "surface" meaning, but there is possibly a deeper subtext a dark one. Not in all of her songs, but definitely those three.

And no worries, I totally understand your disagreement. Everyone's tearing me to shreds in this thread anyway. Lol.

Oh I agree gaga is so multifaceted in her writing and meanings and induendos, but that doesn't mean they all center solely around rape.

But I've seen you mention monster a lot, and I'm curious what alludes to you be sure that's about rape, cuz that's hands down my favorite gaga song and I've never even gotten and indication of rape suggestion. So please inform me!

Swan Heart

I feel like a lot of Gaga's songs have something to do with such kind of abuse. Alejandro, Monster, I Like It Rough, Rock Show, Swine, hell even Poker Face can be seen like that.

Not sure about Just Dance though.

They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

Well it's actually the back story leading up Just Dance, and then continuing it.

Gaga is at a club when she meets this guy. He's mysterious and sexy. He approaches her, comes on strong, but she's telling him to back off. That's when (in just dance) I believe he gave her the spiked drink. Then in the bridge, Gaga talks about what happens after the events of Just Dance. She wanted to stay out on the floor and just dance but he took her home (cause she had no keys or phone) and he tore her clothes off and raped her. That's why he's called the monster. He ate (destroyed) her heart (emotions) and her brain (mentality).

Oh ok so this is speculation. I was thinking gaga spoke on the song and I missed it.

OK while I appreciate an over active mind, not everything needs to be so dismal and sad and unforgiving.

I'm not trying to read you, but how old are you? Have you been to a club? I always interpret Monster as someone who's out at the club, and you see someone from across the dance floor and they are stunning, dark eyes, and instantly know they are bad for you. But you're attracted to them, almost comically. You can't help it. You want them. All of them. Right then and there. There's just something about them that grabs your attention and you can't let go, so you spend the night dancing with them, falling for them, and inviting them back to your place. They ate your heart (you knew you were obsessed with them, you wanted them) then he ate my brain (even tho you knew they were bad for you, a bad boy so to speak, you knew better, but you fuc*ked em anyways)

Gagas earlier work was all about money, sex, love, and being young.

Not about rape

Essentially, monster is about a guy who gaga knows is bad for her, cuz he's a player, fuc*s everyone, and can't commit, never wanting a relationship, but to take a girl to pound town. And gaga, knowing better, does it anyways, despite better judgement.

it's a one night stand kinda song

Haroon

I can't deny that that's a very intriguing interpretation, I can see why you'd think that :omg: Judging by the interviews I don't think it's about that though, but it's definitely an interesting and valid take on it so thanks for providing this angle :)
