Dark Anatomy 2,284
So, I was listening to Just Dance the other day and a really dark thought came across my mind. Is "Just Dance" about rape (or more specifically, hers)? According to Gaga she was raped 10 years ago, which means she was assaulted sometime in 2006. I am beginning to believe that she wrote this song about being raped and covered it up with an upbeat melody and production. Her own way of turning something beautiful out of the ugly. Maybe this is a reach or maybe i'm right. Either way, let's breakdown the lyrics: "I've had a little bit too much, much All of the people start to rush. Start to rush by. A dizzy twister dance Can't find my drink or man. Where are my keys? I lost my phone, phone." Right off the bat we know that Gaga is out in public with a man. Then suddenly, after (supposedly) having too much to drink, she begins feeling dizzy and her vision begins to blur. Now she can't even find her date and now her phone and keys are missing. Was something put into her drink? Did the man purposely take her phone and keys so she couldn't escape? "What's going on, on the floor? I love this record, baby, but I can't see straight anymore. Keep it cool, what's the name of this club? I can't remember but it's alright, a-alright." Her paranoia is kicking in, she really doesn't know where she's at. She's trying to calm her self down and not panic but it's hard. "Just dance. Gonna be okay. Da-doo-doo-doo Just dance. Spin that record babe." So now she's trying to hit the dance floor to distract herself from what's going on. She's using the familiarity of the song that's playing as a way to calm down. "Wish I could shut my playboy mouth. How'd I turn my shirt inside out, inside out right? Control your poison, babe "Roses have thorns," they say. And we're all gettin' hosed tonight." This is where things get disturbing. Somewhere in the midst of dancing she realizes that her shirt is inside out. She's doesn't remember taking off her own shirt. She tries to forget about it by dancing it off when her abuser finally finds her. "[Colby O'Donis] When I come through on the dance floor checking out that catalogue. Can't believe my eyes so many women without a flaw. And I ain't gonna' give it up, steady tryna pick it up like a car I'ma hit it, I'ma hit it and latch onto it until tomorrow, yeah Shorty I can see that you got so much energy The way you twirling up them hips 'round and 'round And there is no reason at all why you can't leave here with me In the mean time stay, let me watch you break it down." This is where I got sick to my stomach. Finally after escaping his clutches, her abuser has finally found her on the dance floor. He says he's not gonna give her up so easy, that's he's going to continue "hitting it" until tomorrow cause she's got so much energy. He says there's no reason for her NOT to leave without him, but that's because he's drugged her, stolen her keys, and took her phone. For now he sickly watches her dance, waiting for the moment to lunge at her like a predator. Thoughts?

I always figured there was something deeper about Just Dance, I just haven't figured it out yet

Dark Anatomy 2,284
Just now, PMKKARDASHiAN said: Not everything in gagas discography is about rape Have there been any other threads about it? The only songs in her discography i've thought were rape related where "Just Dance", "Monster", and "Swine". Rape is not something you get over lightly so it makes sense for her to reference. JustinTrudeau 2,419
I see where you're going at, but no, drunk people lose keys and have inside-out shirts. Case in point, my brother lol. She have other songs that address rape (Monster, TIHTY, Swine). I fell down the stairs once as an actor.
Evan Peters 10,743
someone made the same exact thread about this topic a while ago. interesting take but the song is pretty literal in it's meaning of 'i'm drunk as **** and have no idea what's happening'. emma roberts is an abuser
Bloody 64,631
no, it's a just a party song
giskardsb 12,565
Interesting interpretation. In interviews and the book "rivington was ours" tho I think this song is about a very literal experience. Much of TF is very literal slice of life stuff which is probably why many consider it so relatable.
