Ployd 838
It's a lot easier for them to chose the winner of the Golden Globe than a song that wasn't nominated.

PopThatArt 2,193
The Academy wanted to "show diversity" so they picked the gay singer rather than who should have won and deserved to win - Gaga. Go see A Star is Born

RAMROD 104,209
Yes and no, often times big categories that won at GG would usually win at Oscars as well. But this time it is mistaken. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ 𝒬𝓊𝑒𝑒𝓃 𝓃𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇 𝒸𝓇𝓎 (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡

With Diane as a co-writer! OT, Gaga should collab with Diane again to help get her her first Oscar. I love the chemistry between the two. #justice4diane ¿Tú me estás hablando en inglés? Cssomeone 1,576
I don't think they gave Sam an Oscar just because he is gay. I believe two things might have happened: - The voters were more familiar with the 007 movie (franchise) - The votes split and Sam ended up having more. StrawberryBlond 14,102
It can indeed be a major factor. For a song to win an Oscar that didn't even get nominated for a GG...it really doesn't happen. And it's only now I've realised that. It is odd that the GG's didn't even recognise a song that got so much Oscar support. The Oscars tend to follow the GG's in a lot of things, just like the Grammys follow the Oscars (this is likely a big reason why Glory won the Grammy this year - the voters didn't want to look bad after it won an Oscar). The industries copy each other in lots of ways. It's so infuriating. Because as we've seen, there can be very different views on song quality across industries so why should they feel the need to copy one another? Seeing as how the GG's and Oscars are film industries, not music industries, there is no need to copy each others tastes when it comes to music. If that really is the thing that gave Sam that win...furious doesn't even begin to cover it. I mean, people didn't really get upset over Sam winning at the GG's because his competition was different there and it wasn't as strong. But the Oscars was a different matter and it's of a higher quality. Then the public really decided it was time to say "At most this second-rate Bond theme deserved a GG, but not an Oscar - it's ain't no Skyfall." That explains a lot. Which makes me even more annoyed now because if it weren't for this stupid rule, it could have got nominated, won, then the Oscars would have followed suit. I really don't understand why they went for 2 consecutive Bond songs. In 54 years of the Bond franchise totalling 24 movies, this is only the 5th time a Bond movie has ever won an Oscar - 3 were won in technical categories, 2 for songs. The Oscars have never been big on the franchise like the public have. To think amazing themes like Goldeneye, Thunderball, Diamonds Are Forever, etc. have never won an Oscar but WOTW has? It's unfathomable. These awards have also been years apart. To award the theme for 2 consecutive movies was an uncharacteristic joke. It probably wouldn't have even won if Adele hadn't won for the last movie, which reinvigorated the world's interest in Bond themes, which had been lacking for the previous Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.
