Bradley 59,064
I am a big fan of Diane Warren and I think she's a very talented writer. Her songs tend to have big and meaningful messages in them. However, am I the only one who thinks her writing lacks award-worthiness? I know Gaga wrote that song too but apparently Diane had a bigger part in the writing process, while Gaga in the production. If you listened to last year's Best Original Song nominations, Grateful from Beyond the Lights had a very positive message (which emphasizes optimism towards life) in it but the production lacks uniqueness that truly make it stand out among other nominations. Glory had that quality, John Legend's vocals and melody were beautifully sung and composed. I guess there's a reason why it took 8 (failed) attempts for Diane to snatch an Oscar. A lot of fans have been saying how TIHTY is an influential song with a great message but the Oscars tend to award songs with that Bad-Romance-quality that nobody else has. I also think TIHTY is especially wonderful in its live performances. Gaga made brilliant vocal and instrument variations at the Billboard Women in Music and Oscar performances but voters tend to only listen to the studio version for a few times. It takes multiple listens for fans to get into the song and thus fully embracing every possible emotion derivable from the song. The studio version is somehow plain in comparison with her groundbreaking and earth-shattering performances. I love Diane but I'm slightly concerned about her collaboration with Gaga on LG5. They are bound to be good but it takes special effort to be truly unique. I do hope our very versatile Gaga experiments with other writers and producers if she were to compose another Oscar worthy original song. Lastly I wanna remind y'all that it took 8 attempts for Diane (though she hasn't gotten one) and decades for Leonardo to even get an Oscar, it's only Gaga's first nomination so chill. She's still an Academy Award nominee.
Sizzily 14,543
If TIHTY lacks award worthy writing, then that goes double for TWOTW Written with no genuine meaning. Tears in the rain
Dorothy Gale 7,575
I feel like her recent songs especially have lyrics that are somewhat forgettable or basic. I think Gaga's changes made TIHTY stick out.

Yea but WOTW has good melody. I was talking about their writing not in terms of lyric but melody.
brendablethyn 536
Her songs are mostly ballads and not really focused on the lyrics. I mean she's good at writing a hook... "Unbreak my heart", "I don't wanna miss a thing". but she's kind of like Max Martin, really good at their specific gig but not really respected by their peers and the industry because they lack authenticity and quality in what they do. No one ever goes out of their way to praise them.
