Because he is an excellent vocalist, songwriter and pianist...whose talent and songs has spanned several decades with songs that the whole world knows. He's a gay man who hid his sexuality for years, suffered backlash for coming out and has been a tireless advocate for the fight to end AIDS and has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for research.
