You don't know about the author though, it could be the same situation where they've flipped off Gaga in the past.

is this how we're going to write off all criticisms against gaga now? because every publication has a personal vendetta against gaga...

Lots of silliness. Rank article. Gaga's performance wasn't good because of....outfit changes? It's basically we don't like her, so let's make sh!t up to discredit the performance :green:

i haven't watched Lorde's performance and i loved Gaga's so i have yet to form an opinion

this was aimed at those who scoffed at the idea of Lorde doing a tribute to David

There's a difference.

Probably no one scoffed at the idea of Lorde doing a Bowie tribute, what they probably scoffed at was the idea of Lorde being MORE deserving to do a Bowie tribute over Gaga, just because she met him and he praised her, when Gaga is talented enough to do it justice and has cited Bowie as an inspiration from early on in her career. That's the difference.

They should be very very careful before they get dragged by the rising fan base of Gaga. This type of shiz can get a b*tch cut by a die hard monster lol

Of course it is. The two are different. I doubt you'd find anyone saying Lorde isn't good enough to do a Bowie tribute, which is what you're impying. And don't "hush" me, let's not be childish, I don't think i've been disrespectful to you.

1. Being backed by Bowie's band is a hugely awesome thing. It shows that people close to Bowie support and like Lorde, which is important if you are tributing someone.

2. Lorde being stripped down was better and keeping it simple does help to create a more seamless show.

3. Subtle is not bad, nor is in-your-face. Fact is, Bowie was not necessarily subtle. Comparing the performances to make one better or worse than the other in terms of subtly is like comparing apples to oranges- both honored Bowie appropriately, albeit in different ways. You could criticize Gaga for being too haphazard, you could criticize Lorde for not replicating enough of Bowie's energy.

4. Bowie's spoken stamp of approval for Lorde is amazing. I'm still bummed he never openly praised Gaga, and him praising Lorde but not Gaga does raise a red flag.

5. This criticism is freaking bogus, bogus. Gaga made the performance about "herself" yet Lorde's performance was the one that featured Lorde's face on huge screens with barely any other imagery to look at other than Lorde herself. Gaga tried her best to bring Bowie himself back to the stage to honor him, Lorde chose to sing a song in more of a mourning fashion.
I don't think Lorde made it about herself more than Bowie, but you'd have to be really against Gaga to say that Lorde's was better because it was "actually about Bowie." It was no more or less about Bowie than Gaga's was. Lorde's was about mourning his death, Gaga's was about celebrating his life. Both are essential and wonderful.

A lot of good points.  But you have to take Lorde's in totality as far as what people liked about it.  She didn't need Bowie's face behind her.  There had just been a medley of songs with Bowie clips  from all his eras with his own band playing and then her walking out and performing with his band one song.  It was one performance as far as a tribute to Bowie, not two separate tributes. His face was a prominent feature in that tribute.  Gaga's had no Bowie images.

but... but... but...

it wasn't just NME, Telegraph said that Lorde's "tribute to Bowie was powerful and affecting, showing up Lady Gaga’s Grammy award extravaganza for the superficial, soulless travesty it was."

Wow, you found two entire articles backing your opinion; you must be right!

NME talks about Gaga like a pressed Katy Perry fan on an ATRL thread.

❝Is not blue, not turquoise, not lapis. It's actually cerulean❞.

1. It was backed by Bowie’s band

Gaga was backed by Nile Rodgers. Are they gonna be ignorant like some twitter haters and claim Nile didn't know Bowie well enough?

2. Lorde knew that one outfit was good enough

I did not even notice her outfit under that overwhelming red light. She could've gone naked too.

3. It was subtle

Were Bowie's career and all performances always 'subtle'?

4. It had Bowie’s stamp of approval

Gaga said Bowie was her pen pal.:derpga:

5. It was actually about Bowie

And paying tribute to one of the most successful part of his career (Ziggy era) was not about Bowie? Ok.

The reason some might think it was more about Gaga is because her whole career is a tribute to Bowie.

I rest my case.

I mean I'm a fan of Lorde but her voice doesn't really seem to fit with piano rock ballads, especially with "Life On Mars?" I really love her when she sings electronic.

And emotional? The only bit that grabbed my heart was Bowie's band playing riffs from his songs with the Bowie clips behind, and the point in the ending where Lorde grabbed her heart herself. :green:

Only one song? If I were ever to be tributed myself, I would want even three or four of my songs to be played. Sorry if harsh, but it looked like "Lorde covers Bowie" than "Lorde tributes Bowie."

Gaga could've created a more emotional tribute and a less outlandish one, but they should learn how to appreciate her and Nile Rodgers' effort.

I don't believe her, that he was her pen pal.

Most all of the publications raved about it, so why carry on so much over one or two?  It's not like she was dissed across the board.  The opposite actually.

Don't worry sis. I just included my personal review of the performance on this thread so that I wouldn't post it on another one. ;)
