Why?

Whether we stay in or out, not much will actually change except for the fact we won't be vetoed when we want to move forward faster than the rest of Europe. Also, our trade agreement with Europe would barely change as we're a huge plus for them. If they decided to "punish" us for leaving, they would be the real losers as we can simply seek alternatives.

The main selling point for me is the idea of having control of our actual laws and business than having to pass everything through the EU. For example, one of the most pathetic vetoes was carried out by France. We were supposed to be updating our garbage disposal vans to safer, and greener ones but as France makes our current ones, they vetoed the update to lock us into doing business with them? It's pathetic.

I don't know a lot about it & I really want to!

I'm not saying that I want the Brexit or that I don't want it but I don't understand something. Why are so many people thinking that it would be bad to leave the EU for the britain economic?

Switzerland isn't in the EU but it goes pretty well economically speaking!

Really? lmao.. something similar happened in Lebanon. Didn't expect it in Europe.

It goes to show that people all around the world are the same.

The UK pretty much had to cut its ties with its former colonies (the Commonwealth) to favour trade with the EU. Their biggest mistake, IMO.

The UK definitely has potential to become a successful nation on its own, but given the state of the economy I don't think that it would be wise to leave. Nowadays everything is about international trading and while they can indeed find alternatives, I believe that they will have a hard time recovering from their potential exit. Regulations regarding travel and in- and export would have to be negotiated again and all their contracts would be shaken. Only time will tell if they are strong enough to survive that. I'd rather them not risk it.

Why? Its not like the UK won't be able to trade outside of the EU. They just won't be included in the EU trade bloc and will have to make their own deals. Surely it makes more sense to negotiate smaller deals that are more directly beneficial to them?

Obama going round threatening that the UK leaving the EU will put them at the 'bottom' of the international trade list as if multiple negotiations don't go on at once. The US are trying to protect their European gateway (the UK). Obama has never been pro-UK.

RE: Travel, I think the UK would likely get to keep visa-free (90 days) travel around Europe. Countries such as the USA, Canada, BRazil Australia have a deal like this with the EU. They just won't be able to work their under the EU regulations. From what I gather, thats what the UK wants.

I'd like to see the UK leave. Perhaps its the Russian in me. Perhaps its the Swede wanting to see if Sweden would be OK leaving too.

I don't see why the Out camp complain about Cameron's deal. Essentially it is only the start of (hopefully) more reforms under the EU.

I am only voting to stay within the EU is for the fact Scotland won't gain independence any time soon. I am only thinking of Britain right now and I feel we are more viable as a country in this ever closer world.

Actually quite disgusted by what Obama's said. There's Americans buried next to the British on various soils across the world where we have fought side by side and he has the nerve to say we will be back of the queue if we leave Europe? I'm also appalled that Cameron allowed him to talk down to and threaten our population like that. It's transparent that Cameron just called in a favour and that the U.S. needs the U.K. in Europe to serve as a back door but Jesus.

I've always liked Obama but this is a real turn off.

That's very mature of you.

From how I see it, the problem stems from the fact that Cameron's deal was that it was less than people wanted (expected within reason?) and that it wasn't really enforceable, and the EU said as much. Reform requires approval from all members and the only ones who seem to be united in their goals are those who are happy with the status-quo/want further integration. Maybe you people actually in the UK know better/see it differently.

Came here to post the exact same thing.  I find it ridiculous how Obama has the nerve to dictate what our country should do and enforce 'consequences' if we choose to disagree.  Funny how he uses the phrase 'back of the queue'.  You can almost hear Cameron panic dialling him for help.

I'm surprised more Scottish people aren't campaigning to leave the EU :emma: As selfish as it would be, it would definitely speed up the campaign for Scottish independence (and probably to a lessor extent Irish reunification).

It is still too early to start campaigning for independence (I disagree with what the SNP is doing right now)

Scotland is fairly left wing and they are more likely to support the EU rather the the right wing England

That was my point, so if the entirety of the UK left the EU, it could give the Scottish an incentive to separate and rejoin the EU  . It's a massive oversimplification but I'm sure I read of polls that gave indications to that extent :emma:

I'm voting stay; but I'm not fussed too much, dual citizenship by birth :spin:

Obama (and the US) is only saying his opinion on the issue like I am allowed an opinion on US politics. It is only being critised because Obama is famous essentially.
