These European nations, whilst similar in many respects, are far too different to cohesively become one integrated nation. Huge language barriers, cultural differences and vast variations in the wealth of each nation are huge stumbling blocks for a supra-nation in Europe to actually take form. I just don't see it happening. I am in favour of the UK in the EU, but I don't necessarily see further integration as a good thing - to me, it looks like it will just cause problems. Smaller nations will become suffocated by the might (financial and population-wise) of countries such as Germany, France and the UK. Just look at how Greece is being treated at the moment - it is powerless against countries like France and Germany. To me, the EU is solely a political entity. and so further integration can only ever be politically based. But I would like to hear your thoughts. And yeah for real - what the Conservatives have done in Europe is a source of deep shame for me. I hate the fact they are a government for the rich and will do anything to protect their money and their monied friends. I am in favour of the Robin Hood tax that the Conservatives are so keen on blocking, I am in favour of Schengen and the elimination of tax dodging too. Judging by the preliminary polls I am now confident we will stay, however Cameron will more than likely get his demands met or at least partially which I am very pleased about. Because the world is not separated in two parts anymore. Europe is a old continent and isn't aging well. The last election was a real sh*tfest, there were no party leaders that had the charisma and ambition to run us. I would have voted Labour if it wasn't for the fact Ed seemed like the kind of guy you'd leave your hamster with whilst you go on holiday and when you return it's dead. SamJ 8,008 Posted February 23, 2016 Share Posted February 23, 2016 I'm really not sure which side I am on I kind of agree with both arguments if we leave then we will have more power in our decisions through our parliament and we can have more say on rules and regulations etc instead of being controlled by Brussels who are in some way holding the UK back with which businesses are allowed to run. And many people do believe that we could follow a similar path like Norway and be successful. but if we leave it will kind of feel like we aren't in Europe anymore because we already don't have the same currency and now we wouldn't even be in the same union and it makes it difficult to visit elsewhere in Europe etc so I'm torn between both arguments Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
