You making it sound like the UK is a special snow flake which is isn't besides it kills any kind of discussion "oh you just don't understand". You in fact have more to say about your own things as any other member within the EU, don't forget that. There are plenty of things that the EU has no influence on and your own government failed at (like the threat of yet another housing bubble) but it's easy to scape goat Europe as a whole rather then cleaning your own kitchen. They only look at the EU as orders from Bruxelles and now we have to obey them but in fact british prime minister votes on every single decision that is made on EU level. Whilst the EU is by no means perfect, and is far too dominated by the voices of Germany and France, it is better to stay in and try and fix it rather than up and leave. The EU started as a trading bloc, why is there such a need for it to become a United States of Europe? These European nations, whilst similar in many respects, are far too different to cohesively become one integrated nation. Huge language barriers, cultural differences and vast variations in the wealth of each nation are huge stumbling blocks for a supra-nation in Europe to actually take form. I just don't see it happening. I am in favour of the UK in the EU, but I don't necessarily see further integration as a good thing - to me, it looks like it will just cause problems. Smaller nations will become suffocated by the might (financial and population-wise) of countries such as Germany, France and the UK. Just look at how Greece is being treated at the moment - it is powerless against countries like France and Germany.
