The Wrap:Will Lady Gaga Help Diane Warren Finally Win an Oscar?

After eight Academy Award nominations but no wins over 28 years, Diane Warren can only think of one time when losing really hurt. It came in 1997, when the songwriter headed to the Shrine Auditorium convinced that she was going to win the Oscar for “Because You Loved Me,” 

“I thought, ‘God, that’s gonna win,'” remembered Warren. “Your category comes up and they stick a camera in your face, and then ‘You Must Love Me’ from “Evita” won. And of course they turn the camera right off because now you don’t matter at all, and I just went ‘fuuuuuck.'”

She laughed. “That was the one time I was really bummed. Every other time I’ve been like, ‘Whatever, it’s cool to be nominated.'” A pause, and a shrug. “But this year I am really hoping, I’m not gonna lie. Some people say, ‘Oh, it doesn’t matter,’ but yeah, it does.”

But writing and recording the song was only one part of the struggle. Originally, there were no plans to release the song beyond its appearance in the film; Lady Gaga didn’t have a new album coming out, and her record company wasn’t planning to release it as a single.

“That song was never gonna come out, but I wasn’t going to let that happen,” said Warren, who approached executive producer Paul Blavin, got partial financing for a video, added her own money and then talked director Catherine Hardwicke into making a video that ended up drawing close to 25 million YouTube views.

To think many of us bombarded her about if the song going to be on iTunes or not back then..., must be putting much nore of unecessary stress for her.

Diane partially financed the TIHTY MV. We should be really grateful to her.If it wasn't for her,we wouldn't even have the song,MV and the future Oscar trophy

28 damn years and no oscar? Gosh thats almost 3 decades....she really deserves it this time around. I hope she wins. I think i would be Instantly excited and happy if gaga wins, but it would feel more heart warming and special if diane wins. I know for sure that if they do win (im keeping the bar low) gaga will let diane do the acceptace speech, maybe she wont even go get the oscar so diane can have her moment

They both will go on the stage if TIHTY wins the Oscar(hopefully),I remember when Adele won the Oscar for Skyfall,both her and the other songwriter did the acceptance speech.I'm sure,it will be the same this time(if they win,of course :pray: )

I meant that I wouldnt be surprised if gaga doesnt actually go on stage and lets diane tale the bling and have her 5 sec of fame
