Redstreak 6,653
Even in her own Album of the Year acceptance speech, Swift felt compelled to talk back to (or at least subtweet) a hip-hop figure, her longtime awards-show nemesis Kanye West, for what he said about her on his new album The Life of Pablo. The press were excited over “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex,” but her acceptance speech made it clear that what pissed her off was West’s claim that he “made that bitch famous.” Which is what I’d assumed: Swift is the new-millennium Madonna (she’s a business, woman) and, as 1989 shows, she has more of a sense of humor about sex than those detractors who still think she’s a kid might guess. But it’s no laughing matter to Swift who gets credit for her decadelong success. She wouldn’t let her own family get away with that. http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/music_box/2016/02/the_2016_grammys_were_dominated_by_hip_hop_even_when_it_didn_t_win_the_awards.html Alan Sparhawk on Music Streaming, Childhood Memories, Star Wars, and the Genius of Taylor Swift Taylor Swift has been celebrated by indie rock fans and mainstream pop fans alike. Is she truly this generation's pop genius or is she a talented, if overrated, songwriter? She is what Madonna was for the '80s/'90s: a pop maverick who knows how to manage her image. Foremost, she is a great songwriter, but it's the whole package that sells it. I think it takes a genius to be that person and maintain it through the insanity of celebrity. http://www.undertheradarmag.com/interviews/2015_artist_survey_low/ It's really heart warming to see this generation grow up with its own set of pop icons <3 Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

mariomania1234 11,368
That's a bit of an insult to Madonna. Nobody is the new her. Every successful female pop artist gets compared to her. Nothing new. Taylor is only a step above Katy in terms of safeness, so it really is an odd comparison. It made more sense with Gaga IMO.

boyerased 2,856
She's not the new Madonna, she's just Taylor Swift. She does her own thing, although I must say she doesn't push boundaries. You never see her dancing in front of burning crosses or publishing soft p*** books.
Bebe 17,019
"She is what Madonna was for the '80s/'90s: a pop maverick" Err I disagree. This isn't even shade to Taylor, it's just a dumb comparison. I need more than "she’s a business, woman" and Madonna had a sense of humour about sex and, if you look close, so does Taylor! They are two different artists, I don't see much of a connection other than them both being successful.
