Today, I was in philosophy when my teacher spoke about Gaga's tribute. He just said about the performance itself that Gaga's voice was great and that the opening was stunning. But he also said that his opinion was irrelevant and to justify that he said: "An opinion, false or even veracious that is based over feelings will always be false. An opinion is irrelevant since she is often affective."

I really believe that artists should think this way because all of this criticism is often powered by feelings. When you want to cogitate in a philosophical way you should just be objective, unbiased and delete the submissiveness that your feelings have over you.

Whatever, what do you think of his point of view ?

I understand what he's saying and I find it very interesting and something I often think about. They only thing I do miss in his explaination is the longing for people to have common ground. It's nice to see someone share your opinion or enjoys something you created. It can also be nice if someone doesn't share your view or love your work, because it can challenge your mind. I don't mind artists seeeking approval in a way with their peers for example, because we all need to keep growing to become better people and better artists, so why not learn from those you admire or who challange you?

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

My ego is too big, I can't really call my opinions irrelevant. :laughga:

But I understand what he meant and I agree, deep down.

They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

You are right ! But I think he was talking about the reaction of a whole society over something and how brainless some critics can be because they are soiled by their feelings. It's important to express your feelings, but sometimes they are possessing you in a way that you are not able to express a logical opinion.

I have to disagree, because his statement itself is also an opinion, which makes him contradict himself.

Basically: "All opinions don't matter." But that statement itself is an opinion.

What kind of unlogical argument and teacher.

In a way, it's true tho. He took the example of Gaga's performance to illustrate the meaning of a sentence in "Criton" by Platon. So it's not really his opinion, but the reformulation of Socrate's idea in the book.

I'm a beginner so please don't kill me.:flop:

He is trying to say that just because he says something was not good, doesnt mean it isnt because his opinion is based on feelings and personal taste and not facts.. subjective emotional opinions are always irrelevant. Your subjective emotional opinion is relevant to you only and you cant use it as a standard for whats right, wrong, good or bad.
