I am in awe of Lady Gaga.

Where does she find the time to rehearse for so many high profile performances in just one or two months? :saladga:

Does she mean 'pen pals' in a metaphorical way? Like they both wrote songs about the same stuff or something?

Because why wouldn't she have said something in the past if they were in regular contact?

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

I was wondering about that too.  I don't know if they were really literally pen pals.

Lady Gaga says paying tribute to the late David Bowie at the Grammys is probably the most challenging thing she's done in career because the icon influenced her greatly and helped shape her identity.

"When I was 19 years old ... I started to live my life like him. I began to consume art and fashion and art history and a combination of those things, performance technique ... and I only hung out with people that were artists and that was the way that he was and I learned that from him," she said. "What I'm trying to say is there's people that love David Bowie, and then there's David Bowie fans, and there's Bowie kids, who live like him ...and I can't express to you, I don't know who I'd be if I didn't have (him as) a figure in my life. I don't know what my identity would be."

Bowie died of cancer at age 69 on Jan. 10. Gaga said she never met Bowie, but that they "were pen pals."

I don't know.  If I was Bowie, I would find that creepy.  Bowie was an inquisitive and curious man who did things because it suited him or inspired him regarding other artists or art or history, mime, etc, but marched to his own drumbeat.  His mind was fascinating and curiosity boundless.

Someone obsessively living like him, studying him and doing those things too, wouldn't impress Bowie. In fact, the young artists he was impressed with offered something different artistically he didn't but would delve into, like Trent Reznor. After he died and I began reading more and more old interviews, I realized how much Gaga did emulate him.  In fact it was startling how much she would reference all the things he used to reference regarding art and fashion, etc., etc.  The she named her first album Fame.  He mentioned Jeff Koons quite a few times in interviews and I think was friends with him.  He had done a practical joke involving Koons, so definitely friends.

I'm beginning to wonder if she didn't attach herself to Koons to have a possible connection to Bowie since she wanted to meet him.
