Why Did Alicia Keys' Star Fade?

Alicia Keys was the 5th biggest artist of the 00's, according to Billboard's decade end chart. She was the second biggest female artist of that decade, falling behind Beyonce (don't worry, Britney was #3. Her singles performances made her fall behind the other two. Brit holds the record for most albums sold that decade by a female though). She has four #1 songs, and her first 3 albums combined have sold more than 15 million copies in the US. But after the decade of 2000 ended, Alicia's star began to dim. Of course, she did have a small resurgence with the OVERLY promoted song "Girl on Fire", which peaked at #11 in 2012. Alicia has released a hand full of singles since then, but all have failed to chart. The weirdest thing about it, in my perception, is that not only has Alicia become the artist who used to be big but isn't anymore, she's starting to be forgotten. With all the success she's had, I find that odd.

So what do you guys have to say about Alicia?

Because she is boring and never reinvented herself until it was too late.

She got married, took long hiatus and had kids.

That is same old same old story for many other female artists too.

She simply couldn't keep up with the music industry. At the height of her fame (in the early to mid 00s) un-autotuned R&B and hip-hop dominated the charts and the world was her oyster. That wasn't the case by the end of the 2000s with the resurgence of electronic/dance music (thanks to Gaga :stalkga:).

Girl On Fire was the worst song ever created :green:

and most annoying, it honestly made me start to dislike her, and I always had a favorable opinion of her. She came across as desperate then with the amount of times she was promoting it, and that irked me.

Exactly lol. It was that song that made me dislike her too. It's so...just not good and she performed it for like a year at every event. It was too much for me

She's super pretentious. Plus her vocals are overrated, and when she had a baby with a married man it contradicted everything she preached about empowering women.

It's science, bitch
