Gaga getting a David Bowie tattoo

Tbh portrait tattoos are one of those things that you could either hit it out of the park and it looks real or it falls short. This one is falling short. Not my place to critique but maybe it'll look better once it's healed and she could always get it touched up.

I just don't get the criticism considering that monsters have Gaga portraits on their skin for life (and some look even worse than what you think this is sorry about it but it's true), why can't Gaga have one of her idol? Who cares about the timing or whatever? Come onnnn.Β

I make it a habit to never, ever, comment negatively about a persons tattoos. It's rude. However if I was rude enough to critique her tattoo I might say something along the lines of...

Bitch, you have all the resources and money in the world at your finger tips so why are you getting an incredibly uninspired Bowie tattoo?

Use your connection in the art world to have an incredible artist sketch you a portrait, take the portrait to an obscenely talented tattoo artist. Don't pop into some shitty LA tattoo parlor. Have Koon's sketch a lighting bolt and have it tattooed on your hip, have Robert Wilson do a watercolor of Ziggy and have it put on your back, something other then the most copy-n-pasted Bowie tattoo I've ever seen.

You'd think someone who is so obsessed with art would put more thought into the artistic value of her tattoos.

But I would never say that.

Excellent point! People need to keep that in perspective. I have a feeling the GP is gonna have a FIELD DAY over this tattoo- they were pressed enough about Gaga just performing Bowie's songs.Β

Bowie would be rolling his eyes she did this after he died and before a tribute, putting his "face" on her body and not even quietly, doing it for publicity is how it seems, like look at what I'm doing. Β He would find it classless, actually.. Β A nice tattoo honoring Bowie (not his face) done with no fanfare would have been far more tasteful.

This is how I feel about pretty much all of her tattoos, tbh. I follow some tattoo blogs and instagram accounts where I see some absolutely stunning pieces of original work. Then I look at Gaga's tattoos and get very confused about her choices.Β

She got her "Born This Way" tattoo around the 2010 VMA's when she wore the meat dress and was still doing The Monster Ball, so I highly doubt this will have any impact on her Bowie tribute performance :smh:.

As for the tattoo itself, I think it's lovely that she chose to literallyΒ dedicate part of her body to him. As she said before, tattoo's have so much spiritual meaning to her that it really says a lot about her artistry that Bowie got such a prominent piece of ink. And she has also said thatΒ Alladin Sane is one of her favorite pieces of him so it only makes sense she chose this particular image :).

Well Gaga is a very chaotic mind. Most modern tattoo art is very focussed on making cohesive pieces that work well with the body and with eachother. Gaga changes her mind and her taste too often to take on such a "project" though :laughga:. Which is why they might be more "dislodged" compared to how tattoo artists usually workΒ nowadays.

Besides, I don't think that esthetic is her primary concern when getting a tattoo. She just gets passionate about things and wants to capture these moments and keep them with her - as if they're good luck charms.Β

She looked so classy up until the ARTPOP tattoo... After that everything else has been a wreck lol. I understand that Bowie was a big influence, but at least if I were to get a tattoo of my idol I wouldn't get his face. For example if it was Gaga I would rather get a lightning bolt or whatever.

I don't disagree with you, I just personally don't like that mentality when it comes to tattoos.Β

It's Gaga's body, Gaga's choice. It is not my intention to diss something that makes her happy, her tats just aren't my cup of tea.Β

Maybe I'm just old fashioned but I just think if you don't have something nice to say about someone, don't say anything. Or if you must, say it in a self-deprecating way. I always make fun if myself and my friends but it's because we know each other. I wouldn't publicly say something bad about someone I don't know or haven't met.Β When I'm around my just friends it's different - we say whatever we like.

Ofcourse I cant go to some stranger on the street and give them my opinion on their tattoo and why it looks horrible.. but a celebrity posting her tattoo picture on instagram is a different thing.

I think the tattoo is not that bad. The only thing whichΒ could be off is that it's placed in the area which tends to get little rolls as you move or get less fit. So she better stay fit now lol.

i agree with comments that her tattoos became kind of random but oh well is her body. If I had $ hundreds of millions I would plan them more carefully , but who knows maybe she values being spontaneous and it gives her true fun out of it.

i wonder if she'll showΒ it on the Grammies (it still will be red on Monday isn't it). I find it strange she remembered to make John Lennon tattoo soon and didn't do anything with Bowie until his death.
