This isn't a performance at a black rights rally. It's the Superbowl, a wholly American event, and Beyonce glorified a hate group in front of all the viewers as if to send some kind of message.

I doubt Beyonce cares too, just as Trump hardly cares that we call him an idiot. It doesn't mean people shouldn't say anything.

Here's the thing though, the Black Panthers were an important part of the Civil Rights movement. Yes, their tactics were horrible. They used violence and go completely against many of our ideals today. However, the imagery does send an important message. The fact that these white people are getting so bothered and are SHOOK to their core speaks volumes. They are not under any threat. They could've easily ignored this. To me she just looked like MJ.... but you know people want to make this a big deal. Don't know if they made a big deal about MJ.

I was raised by police officers, so I've already expressed my feelings about similar issues and don't have the energy to repeat myself, but I will say I checked out her lyrics for Formation (didn't see the show, haven't seen the video), and there isn't anything anti-cop about them. There's some line about "albino alligators" that could be a metaphor for something, but other than that I don't really see what the big deal is. If she wants to bring attention the issue of corruption, I'm all for that. I'm getting tired of all the good cops (of which there are a great many) getting trashed and lumped in with those assholes that have no business wearing a badge (and probably need psychiatric help).

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

I think it speaks volumes that Beyonce would pay reference to a group that did awful things in the name of black equality. Bey references the panthers yet relies on capitalism to gain her wealth and fortune.

If Beyonce wanted to tackle this issue and to speak on the inequalities black people face she could have chosen something better to reference really IMO.

Well tbh I think so too. I don't actually expect Beyonce to actually think too much into this. Her rationale was mostly "let me cause some controversy" ..... well she's done it.

It reality her performance doesn't actually mean anything more than black pride.

I agree, she has definitely accomplished her mission. It's just a shame that the real message behind her performance will get lost in the controversial mess she created

Good. Her performance was tacky and offensive to the people that risk their lives every day for our protection.

If I was there I'd go to the protest too.

For the record, the Black Panthers were never about racial equality. They promoted black supremacy over every race and racial violence against innocent men, women, and children. So. Great job, Beyoncé.

I meant Beyonce referenced the group in the name of black equality.  I should have used the parenthetical comma.  :green:

No it's a borderline threat. Performing it in front of a third of the US population is no different than endorsing those kind of movements today as an implicit threat to everyone watching, as if the problems black people face today are remotely comparable to then in order to warrant such actions.

Honestly all you're saying is that people shouldn't get worked up over a black supremacist group. Why are you being so dismissive about how people feel? Are you seriously saying that people shouldn't voice concern over the endorsement of said activities?

When your only defense is get over it, it's best not to say anything, because it doesn't accomplish anything.

But I thought you people don't care about what is offensive and PC and it's all about free speech?

It is not serious at all. Beyonce just wanted some controversy tbh.

People will forget about this by next week and her new album will sell millions as always.

I wish her the best, but she shouldn't resort to this kind of thing.
