Exactly. This is what I was referencing in a previous post as well. There are a lot of white people who seem to disregard what black people have been saying for decades and hiding their desire to not understand as "Well, first black people need to...."

I can't speak for others but in my opinion this is not the case, I feel more discouraged to openly talk about racism because as soon as I say I'm white I automatically get shut down. The movement for an equal society has been heavily poisoned by teenagers on the internet trying to act 'woke'. White people get asked not to participate in black rights movements but to step aside and only participate when asked to, white people get bashed for saying they aren't racist (the whole 'not all white people' mockery on tumblr is insane).

Black people have no obligation to show respect to anyone, neither do white people, or anyone from any race. The damage caused by slavery and intitutionalised racism is still HEAVILY present today but that does not make every white person racist and teenagers on the internet should stop treating others like that is the case, some of the things I see on the internet its as if white people are still actively claiming poc as their slaves, if you argue against this notion you're instantly called racist and are mocked for believing in reverse racism.

"Well, first black people need to...." doesn't apply to me, there's no obligation to do anything, but I don't think anything productive is going to happen if white people get shut down when they try to help, why would you kick someone down who's trying to help you, I do not get it.

well destiny's child started out appealing to R&B and soul-ish genres. Beyonce branched off into still R&B and had a major following with African-Americans since the very beginning of her career. So in a way, I'm not too suprised and I think some of beyonce's fans are very biased (and I am a HUGE BEY STAN!)

True she had songs that had more of a universal appeal like Single Ladies, Crazy in Love and Halo for example. Since her self titled tho you can tell she shifted more towards her core.

People must be able to see things seperate tho.

1 I don't like this song cause (for example) trap is not my cuppa tea

2 I dont like this song cause it's stereotypical black.

Now 1 is harmless 2 I would consider racist. You can't just all put them into 1 pot and say, no matter what, if you do not like the song you are racist, period. In my eyes that's short sighted and it seems to me that maybe some people have issues with differentiating the reasoning. It's not all black and white (no pun intended).

I normally agree with you but I have to take a different stance on this because the problem I find is that, especially online,  there is a 'White shaming' now.  It's not racist or disrespectful to say this and I'm not taking away from the struggles black people have faced either.  It seems that as a whole black people want white people to understand the struggle and the issue however the message is largely hidden behind such anger and negativity 'You're white so you don't understand' or 'White privileged idiots'.

I agree with another user that stated we need to work together,  it's the only possible way.  It's equally as bad to have the attitude of 'White people were bad in the past so we're allowed to be prejudice'.

I whole heartedly believe that racism still exists unfortunately but the ways society is going about tackling that issue isn't working.  It's almost like the whole debate of 'Black people can say n**** but whites cant'.  It's ridiculous and just as silly to me as homosexuals using the word 'fa****'  because they are 'allowed'.  These are all inequalities in my eyes,  small and minor ones albeit but I'm sure you understand.

We need to spend less time accusing people of being SJW and racists and spend more time tackling the bigger racial issues that effect our society.

I'm actually in agreement. :)

I am a Tumblr user, follow a lot of social rights blogs, and the way people talk about white shaming often seems exaggerated, to be honest. I could easily tailor my Tumblr to NOT see any social justice posts, so I wonder what kinds of blogs people who complain about "white hate" on Tumblr follow...and why they even follow them. :flop: Like you actually have to really LOOK for that kind of vitriol from what I've noticed.

I see a lot of constructive comments about why people feel the way they do, but I don't see the really shitty posts people reference. Perhaps it's because I try to follow constructive blogs, idk. Sometimes I see posts that cross the line, so I won't deny that they exist, and they make me cringe - I won't support people who fight hatred with hatred.

Anyways, I do agree we need to spend less time accusing people of being SJW and racist, especially because accusing people doesn't get them to stop and think about why they feel the way they do. We should all aim to be understanding and explain our thoughts constructively.

You're pulling out extremes, and rare ones at that. People being told not to vote Bernie because he's white? I have literally NEVER heard someone say that. I have, however, heard WAY more people talk about Obama's skin color as a reason to not trust him. Hell, they still do that.

I didn't intend to imply it was the case of the majority, so sorry if it came across that way, I meant to imply that there are a minority of people like that who are heavily present on different sections of the internet but every opinion of any topic has that I guess.

I don't get the party analogy, because I don't believe any white person wants to take over and control black rights movements, participating should be accepted though..

Yeah I've heard that too :awkney: If you want respect, you have to GIVE respect first. That's all I have to say

LMAO

Who are you to receive respect first? Why should YOU get it first? Cause you're white? Because I'm white too and I think WE should give it first. The world is lead by us, white males. If anything, we need to show respect first.

All very good points. :) I think the main idea I was trying to express was that white people helping is not bad- just like helping someone decorate for a party is not bad. But before we start helping, we need to ask "What do you need from me? What role should I play in making this party a success for you?" and I think that's a component a lot of white people miss or don't think of doing before they start getting involved.

That's very true, the people who are the victims of racism should be in complete control of their own movement.

Supersonic

This is one of the reasons why I stopped coming here so often. White pissbabies throwing hissyfits when something by a popular person of color isn't specifically catered and dedicated to them.

You know why I don't care about "white tears" comments and white people jokes even though my ass is pastier than uncooked cookie dough? Because I have the mental capacity to understand that white people jokes are a result of major societal power inbalances as well as structural and internalized racism that disadventages especially black people to this very day. I'm not offended because I know that I am not a shitty white person that fumes at the thought of a successful black women being proud of her heritage even though society teaches everyone that her heritage is all thugs, criminals, rapists and somewhat musically gifted people.

If you are offended, you might check why you group yourself with racist assholes and empathize for them.

Pretty much this. Can we be honest? Racism can go both ways but because of the decisions of white ancestors, people have to live with being more respectful to blacks. But it STILL doesn't happen. I was watching 212 and some guy in the comments was like "N***** looks like a monkey, someone should whip her to shut her up" or something like that. But anyone can be racist though.

However I do agree that not everything is about color if you dont like the song then you dont like it BUT saying the video is trash is kinda iffy since she's paying homage to her southern black roots.

Black people are ALWAYS making fun of white people, always calling them "white trash" or "cracker" or anything of that kind. You have to learn that respect is something you EARN. By saying racial slurs doesn't make you a fighter for Blacklivesmatter sweetie. You are in the wrong, learn to respect. "Black people can't be racist towards white people"??? That type of **** INFURIATES me. If I said something offensive anywhere I could guarantee my social media, my address, the place I worked at would be all over the internet and I would be getting death threats every single minute. It IS a double standard and it is not called "reverse racism" it is called RACISM. It is racist to discriminate against POC, it is racism to discriminate against white people. I don't understand how people don't get that through their heads. And DO NOT EVEN TRY to pull the slavery card on this one. It does NOT justify your RACIST remarks towards white people.

Very true but its also true that white people dont experience the struggle black people go through in terms of racial discrimination unless they are jewish or a segregated country in europe. However I have seen black folks say that white people dont ever face real problems and that they are spoon fed everything since birth which is entirely not true. My father is white and him and his family were homeless and had to deal with poverty until his father had to work 3 jobs to support his wife and kids. That is a REAL problem but not a RACIAL problem. Every human being regardless of race has their own real life struggle but black people tend to face it more severely unless you're rich like Beyonce or Rihanna.
