Sincerely, I'd feel like Gaga was cheating to acquire a recognition that she didn't truly deserve if she was to give her next album for free (which, now that @just4fun reminded me of her partnership with Intel, became a more palpable possibility)... Idk, reading people's points here, seems like the industry has evolved and this certification system is starting not to make sense anymore, so wouldn't it be better to just put an end to it...? PS: Oh honey, this is a forum. Don't worry, i know it's not personal, we're just exchanging ideas :*** well it's just that it bugs me how people don't care about the fact that artist gave them free album but they rather choose to focus on negativity cause thats "fake" certification according to someone. I honestly would love if Gaga gave it for free (digitally) cause she talked about it earlier and I really liked her way of thinking. I mean i just can't understand how can people complain about being offered something for free. If you like it, take it, if you don't then leave it for someone else. and about that last part yeah i know, its just that I wanted to clear that I wasn't just refering to your post but all the people who were complaining about it. So i might have talked about something you didn't even mention
Riot Poof 2,236
Some "unexpected error" is preventing me from getting this song... what gives? Anyways, I am GLAD these big stars are giving their sh¡t out for free. I don't care about RIAA certifications. I care about my MUSIC. I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand.

Those albums could have collected dust on store shelves or stock rooms. They could have been used as firewood. At least the "free" albums of today measures people who actually want the album. People are actually listening to the free albums they downloaded. this, i mean if you aren't interested then don't download. If there is no interest for an artist people won't download it. I would never bother downloading something I don't like. But this is huge problems for haters of each artists cause they are usually updated 24/7 about artist they hate and they are normally first ones to download new albums just so they can bash it, and they are now pressed their download counts for something. weed 74,572
I don't hate free, the only music I really pay for is Gaga's anyways, I just don't think it will be fair to smaller artists. Because sure Beyonce can afford this, but if all big artists decide to go free, no one will wanna pay for smaller artist's songs (even less than now), and then how will they be able to pay for anything? Do I make sense? idk even for bigger artists, everything costs money, so how're they gonna pay if songs don't create revenue?
Haroon 49,685
Isn't getting things free a good thing? So what if it helps make things certified something or not, music not the certifications They're as important as you make them really
Judas Oyster 1,915
I believe this is just a buzz/promo single, so why not give it for free, it's because of the Black History Month. It's a gift. Guys, Bey like Riri are rich and are doing whatever they want to these days

I just can't shake the feeling that there's less dignity on a victory to which failure was never really a possibility...but I get how my way of thinking about it might be very backwards...and I also have to acknowledge that this model might make artists more at comfortable with experimenting new stuff, which is a good thing... So i might have talked about something you didn't even mention I don't think people are complaining about getting stuff for free, but about how these albums are being distributed for free and then these artists (and their fans) boast their numbers, records and certifications as if they had played the same game as everyone else, when they actually didn't...like, ARTPOP, Britney's last album, Kylie's last album, Madonna's lat album and so many other are considered flops, but now Rihanna and Beyonce can't flop, bc if their albums are free, so people will get them, while they might think twice and not get them at all if they were sold at a regular prices...it does inflate their numbers, meaning the playing field is not leveled... Now that I put it like that, seems like a rather childish way of thinking...anyway, my respect for Rihanna and Beyoncé remains unaltered, but I really hope Gaga doesn't do the same (I didn't even know she talked about it in the past...if she though about it, why didn't she use this strategy for ARTPOP? )... Well she allready used it for BTW(practically), so she couldn't do it twice in a row
