I can't wait until Intel announces that LG5 will be free on their website, so all the salty people on this site can eat their words.

All they want is the RIAA recognizement... I hope when Gaga releases her single they don't come at us calling it flop because it's not a platinum, when now they're getting platinums by releasing things for free... This is kind of good for the music itself, but it's not for those good albums that didn't get any recognition or a platinum in the past. If ARTPOP was given away for free at its time then it would've been platinum too, and that's what I don't like about the new RIAA rules.

ARTPOP is actually eligible for platinum actually with this new rule incorporating streaming. Let's just wait for interscope to move their asses...

OMG, if she does that, I'm going to be so disappointed...

Maybe I'm too old...

mte, especially since Gaga was the one who first mentioned it in preARTPOP era. People talk **** about certifications being this and that and in fact they are the ones who are trying to make certifications look like something you should push to the other stanbases faces as receipts their fave is better

why, cause gave you album for free?

this is what im talking about, you all are paying attention to the negativity rather than look at it from a positive side. Artists are giving albums you for free, who cares if it will be certified or not? if you all claim music not the bling why do you even give a **** if it will be certified for a reason or not. btw. this isn't about you personal but people in general

In 2012 when Gaga mentioned idea of free albums all monsters were praising her for idea, and now giving free albums is smething negative?

Its true. They will probably wait to certify it the same week of a new single release or album release to get more press. They could probably certify C2C as platinum too. About a month ago MJ's album Thriller was the first album ever to reach 30x's platinum not even two months later and its already certified at 32x's platinum.

I don't think CTC has that much streams/song sales, but they could definetly update her singles certifications aswell (even based on only sales)

gagzus

lmfao they desperately wanna seem like they're pulling off 1 million first week when they're all debuting with less than ARTPOP did :air: I honestly can't see this being a hit at all nor can i see her album selling even half self titled's sales

With this free music thing, arent they loosing money? If they're loosing money, that can only reflect in more expensive tickets for the tour... So if this ends up with Gaga giving her single/album for free then maybe her tickets will be more expensive.

Bc this is sort of a breach of the rules, it's taking advantage of a hypothesis that probably wasn't even considered when the "rules of the game" were being stablished...and wether we like it or not the RIAA certification still holds some importance and significance. Sincerely, I'd feel like Gaga was cheating to acquire a recognition that she didn't truly deserve if she was to give her next album for free (which, now that @just4fun reminded me of her partnership with Intel, became a more palpable possibility)...

Idk, reading people's points here, seems like the industry has evolved and this certification system is starting not to make sense anymore, so wouldn't it be better to just put an end to it...?

PS: Oh honey, this is a forum. Don't worry, i know it's not personal, we're just exchanging ideas :***

In the past certification were based on shipments alone not sales. Those albums could have collected dust on store shelves or stock rooms. They could have been used as firewood. At least the "free" albums of today measures people who actually want the album. People are actually listening to the free albums they downloaded.
