Bernie's "free college for all" is just like Trumps "I'm going to send 12 million immigrants back home". Both are never going to happen and both the liberals and conservatives buying into it are the opposite sides of the same coin! Germany's universities are all free, even for foreigners. If we make them free, they will end up going private because they are such nice campuses with extensive student programs and facilities. The community colleges will be what would end up being free, and those are more comparable to what you have in places like Germany. That's what some states are already doing and pushing for. They don't offer the same types of programs and services that most state schools offer and they don't have the same facilities. The majority of state schools wouldn't be able to go backwards, so they would have to go private. In the end, you might just end up with a more division between those who have and the have nots. My university has 5 cafeterias with a vegan option, vegetarian option, meat option and special option plus a salad bar, we have a climbing hall as well, the university hospital, huge chill places, faculties which are in actually castles, we have free transportation where we can take any bus or train even within your state (which is cool since I study in NRW and in NRW are many big cities like Cologne, Düsseldorf or Münster) , and we have several students groups as well. Look up the University of Indiana or Auburn University and look at their campuses. Penn State has a campus so big that it is its own city. The university is a city! They want free college, but they want it to be just like the college experience they have available now and that is simply impossible. Sanders wants to do a lot of things that will never happen in the US. Trump wants to build a beautiful 2,000 foot wall and that isn't happening either!
