When Butterfly only got two proper singles because Mariah Carey's record label was being salty. When Justin Timberfake exposed Janet Jackson's titty and everyone came for her (but not him). When Madonna retracted the original version of the "American Life" video, replacing it with a weaker version of it due to fear of backlash or w/e. When the US, my country and one of the biggest music markets in the world, decided that Kylie Minogue wasn't for them. When Liz Phair went pop-rock, alienating her indie fans while failing to gain a new fanbase. And all of the times my alt faves were paid dust because they weren't as well known or popular.
