idgi .-. is she slaying or did she only sell 460 copies?!

these are sales from last week when ANTI was for free. Free copies didn't count. But few hours before official anti release, it was uploaded on TIDAL by mistake and 460 people managed to buy it in few minutes before it was taken down

I wonder if the 460 people who bought it knew that it was available for free that day  The album wasn't really meant to smash in that tiny time frame, I mean it was only available on Tidal and it was being offered for free :emma: I don't think this says anything about the album's success :laughga:

Apparently it was from period when it was leaked. Before release tidal accidentaly uploaded it but took it down in like 10 mins

no, but it wasn't available for purchase until friday. I assumed it was available parallely with Free downloads but others are saying it wasn't, and that only period was when it "leaked".

I think it's dumb that tidal even reported these sales. I mean it would be way more messier if they just reported streams cause official purchases were released on friday

I don't really get where those reported sales are coming from. Wasn't it only available to buy from Friday? Or is it from the time when it was accidentally uploaded?

I'm quoting you cause you seem to be the only unbiased and serious fan about the whole thing. Some people here are so DUMB it's embarassing! I just have these things unclear - when RiRi released the album on Tidal for streaming and with the promo code for download - this was late Jan. 27 or early Jan. 28 depending on location right? And during that period the album couldn't be purchased am I wrong? You could stream it on TIDAL or use the ANTI promo code. After 15 hours the promo was over (1 million or 1.4 million downloads who knows, TIDAL is such a mess, RIAA certifying it Platinum) and it was still only available for stream only on TIDAL? And then on Jan. 29 Friday the album was released on TIDAL for purchase, iTunes, Google Play everywhere (without physical release) in both standard and deluxe edition.

So what I make out of the messiest mess of messy releases is that SALES started on Friday. Hence, we will have a  real figure next week when Billboard reports the Top 200 Chart. These figures now represent nothing but the streaming activity from Jan. 28 and a bit of 27th. + 460 accidental purchases from the system error on TIDAL.

:saladga::saladga: Gotta hate the time we're living in. I mean all this gained so much negativity and once again succeeded in detracting the attention from the music itself. Let's not act like ANTI is not a very good/excellent album. Anyone who claims is not a huge improvement and growth for Rihanna is in denial so that they can quit the chill pills after ARTPOP happened... And with RIAA certification still unclear how exactly happened and basically diminishing the idea and the announced new rules for counting streams as album sales everyone will be talking about this.

Rihanna earned BIG respect from me with ANTI, tho. The way she released it proves she doesn't give a flying sh*t about the charts, and that's how it should be. It's bored and pressed people that try to make out of the situation something like " She is hiding her flop". She made even companies have disagreements about what to count as sale and what not. If she was desperate for the charts she would've waited and have it released in digital and physical formats simultaneously.

I think it's a very successful strategy and a smart business idea - she got her money from Samsung, and remains unbothered. Fans were happy to get the album for free and that's a wrap. You just have the music to enjoy all by yourself. Ofc, the drama that started in the media and social networks about charting and critical reception will be remembered for long. It was very ANTI of RiRi to do all that. But I'm staying out and will enjoy this masterpiece!

I agree 100% on you. Most of people don't even think about what they read and if they did they are often being hyporital about it. Honestly TIDAL shouldn't have reported any sales at all cause it wasn't even released officially for purchases. This way they only made it look like a mess.

Anyways she is predicted to do 130k in this week and even now some people are acting it's huge floppage lmao even though it is only released digitally, even though there is no promo at all, not even single iTunes banner, and even though she gave 1,4m copies for free.

Puttin a separate post cause it won't let me edit it MESS.

Edit: I read the BB article. So ANTI standard edition was made available for purchase on Jan. 28 after all but it was the only place where it was available to buy or stream. #27 on the chart from TIDAL only even without 1 million free downloads is actually an achievement.  :emma:

Even if next week she'll get the #1 spto I don't see any longevity for it... It'll be lucky if it passes 1M (real sales)

Gurl calm your tits. I am still on the first page of this thread and you've already made two disparaging comments. She already had 1.4 million downloads. That 1.4 million people enjoying her album. Most artists couldn't give away that much while having a multi billion dollar corporation pick up the cost. She is still getting her paycheck and the record company is pleased with what they are receiving too. Her album is still number one on iTunes so where are you getting your info about longevity? Rihanna has never been an artist that depended only on first week sales. That's why she's only had one number one album.

Keep in mind that Work only went top 10 because Billboard changed it's charting formula to count digital sales more. If the rules were the same as last week, it would actually be at #18. Rih is only top 10 because of a rule change.

What did billboard lower to accommodate raising digital sales more? Also they didn't make that change to just benefit Rihanna. Everyone is benefiting from that change. Why is it suddenly a bad thing that sales count more that other things? Everyone (including you) has been saying that sales is the most important thing to determine a single's success. I personally think its stupid because in a couple years sales won't even matter and radio will keep losing ground too. Both those items will slowly be replaced with streaming.
