Will KP4 be a Success or a Failure?

According to Newton, what comes up must come down. So there is only one way to go IF you are on what you define as "top." If Katy wants to go higher she should aim higher than Mt. Everest but from the interview, if she views herself at the highest peak already at Mt. Everest, then she is limiting herself. Look at Gaga looking at space and aiming for Venus even when her ARTPOPped.

She's going to smash again.  Regardless if her fans are typically younger she has the GP on her side and will continue to do so.  She is likeable to the masses and doesn't take herself too seriously.  She's appealing and writes some killer hooks. 

Id love for her to go down more of a darker route because I feel the candy land theme has been done now and she could do with branching out sonically.

Either way,  she is going to write some smash singles and probably get that #1 again.

But it's not like she needs to do something dark, she is known for her uplifting, anthemic songs like roar and firework. And she already tweeted lyrics that suggest that she wants to have another song like that during her next album cycle.

I think Katy will face the inevitable trap of any popstar (let's not pretend Gaga was not part of it, for more info check ARTPOP  ) - the struggle between doing something you want with your music and what your audience expects you to cause that's how it came to perceive you with the initial success. 

I think Perry is bound to have much less successful era but it will be very important for the long-term. Cause such an album will demonstrate the new direction she chooses to pursue.

Choosing the same path as TD and PRISM would lead to a less successful era cause people are somewhat tired of that imagery. The kids will go crazy for her again for sure. She will still be as some of you say family-friendly. But who will take her seriously in the industry if she keeps doing that? Look at PRISM - I recently relistened to it and remembered it's far from what the singles would make you think. The second half of the album is quite serious and stripped-down. The first half is a mixed bag of good bops - Legendary Lovers, Walking on Air, Dark Horse + Unconditionally on one hand, and then the rest which are too TD-esque and cringey and yet they were the single choices...  Apparently her team wanted her to play it safe and milk the candy cow to the fullest. Imagine if she had opted for ANY of the songs in the second half? Or if she goes after that sound for the next album? I think it would have been good for a more mature audience. Of course she will lose the "cool" among kids but does a 31-yo woman wants to be relevant with my niece (9yo) until she hits her twenties?

So I think this is the trap - if she stays in the box that everyone expects her to stay - she will be repetitive, if she goes out of it and goes in that stripped-down direction - she will be boring. 

If she goes truly dark and racy she will be panned. She will probably be embraced more by people like us but she will have to kiss it goodbye to the average Christian family with 2 kids that used to buy her albums and play them for their birthdays. 

Personally I hope she evolves from the sound of the second half of PRISM and maybe some One of the boys rock vibe? It would really suit her.

Yeah I've heard them,  she has darker songs but conceptually it's always in the same vein as TD.  Dark doesn't necessarily have to mean heartbreak though.  TFM was a dark album and that wasn't a heartbreak record.  

It doesn't matter what she is known for,  Gaga is known as the meat dress girl and she doesn't still conform to that ideal.  Katy clearly has the writing capability to pull a different concept outta the bag and I'm confident she will.   I don't expect TD 3.0 this time.

I don't really care that much, all I care is the Katy that I love come back. I don't like Prism much, but I really love TD and many songs of OTB.

If KP4 is good, I wish Katy to smash.
