(Not the best on current events or whats happening beyond my box). I guess there were just a lot in reserve and the demand became lower. Another thing I read, though this is more of a conspiracy theory is that it is a ploy of the US and Saudi Arabia to economically hurt Russia and Iran. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/business/energy-environment/oil-prices.html Just a stupid conspiracy theory though. I hope your trip to NY still happens somehow. It might cost more but maybe it's the perfect time to do a roadtrip through the US? I dunno gas is cheap make the best of it at least while you are on vacation. That conspiracy theory makes no sense All OPEC has done is not cut production to lift prices because the revolution in unconventional reserves means cutting production would simply make them loose market share Most production increases came from US shale. The oil industry in the US is a peivate one. Its made up of dozens of companies. It would therefore be nearly impossible for the US to control production up or down just like that on some accord conspiracy theories come up all the time but half of them arent really realistic as for road trip. Hotels and food would be main cost not the drive. So the exchbage matters more for us than fuel price

China is just too industrialized, the country can produce more than people are asking (and it's a first time in History). So if China doesn't want to see its growth plummet, it has to make this swift shift. Im not a noob. I know perfectly well that once a Nation reaches a certain stage, growth based soley on exports and manufacturing is no longer possible. Consumption must rise. China has reached that point But they have been under a lot of pressure from their own citizens to take measures to reduce pollution because its become a critical issue in parts of the Nation and a faster conversion to service based industry was part of that. A faster pace of rises in minimum wage was done to speed up this process Also if they did not care about pollution they wouldnt be investing in solar and wind so heavily right now. China is estimated to have by far the largest Shale Gas reserves in the world. They could just build more fossil plants if they wanted to yet they wanna increase role of renewables

Not sure how the oil sand companies that created a boom in recent years are handling the prices. Prices usually go down when supply is higher than demand, which is unusual for resources like oil, the backbone of America's petrodollar, whose demand is nearly always high. However, how deep are those Arabian reserves and with plans on the table for Saudi Arabia politically revolutionize with a growing uncertainty in oil, is that a sign we're getting close or passing oil's peak in reserves? Yes. North America contributed the most to the recent glut Almost all rise in global production the last 4-5 has all come from Canada and USA. Since Canada and the US oil industry is made up of private companies, it would be next to impossible for a conspiracy like that because we cannot easily control private companies production, and if we tried it and by some miracle got everyone on boars, it would be super hard to keep it quiet as it would involve hundreds of companies and someone would leak it. Not to mention Corporations care about progits not external politics. so this conspiracy theory isnt realistic As for how low oil prices will affect the industry it depends if your talking about the US or Canada. In the US price changes (up or down) affect the industey almost imediately. Canada on the other hand run on the list longest cycles in the world, short term price volatility doesnt greatly influence oil sand development positively or negatively. But if the price change remains for prolonged periods of time, you see impact on production within 5-10 years

That's not exactly the case if you're talking about the UK: “prerogative powers could not be used to contradict a statutory provision, and [...] in situations to which the power and the statute both applied, the power could only be used to further the aim of the statute.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_prerogative_in_the_United_Kingdom#Limitations Plus, they don't even have an elected parliament in Saudi Arabia: they have a Consultative Assembly, which is appointed by the king. I don't really know if it would lead to some revolutionary changes. A constitution together with the parliament was introduced later after the revolution of 1905, but didn't really improve the situation or change anything, because the tsar neglected them and was reluctant to do further reforms. So, sadly the empire ended in 1917 with two more revolutions after people could not longer tolerate the regime.
