Sam Smith faces backlash on twitter after "Whiteplaining"

Quoting this from metro.uk word to word.

Whiteplaining:  The paternalistic lecture given by Whites toward a person of color defining what should and shouldn't be considered racist, while obliviously exhibiting their own racism.

"Sam Smith took to Twitter on Tuesday night to share his friend’s ordeal at being the victim of racial abuse.

Now this in itself isn’t a bad thing. It’s good that Sam is outraged that there are horrible people in the world that think it’s okay to attack and ridicule others just because of the colour of their skin."

"The problem is, Sam seems to be under the misconception that racism in London had suddenly vanished after Leona Lewis won the X Factor or something" OMG :air:

"He also shares just how ‘hurt’ he was, thus making the issue of racism about himself, not his mate, the actual victim of abuse."

"And now he’s taking it upon himself to be a white knight and ‘shine some sort of light’ on the issue, as though hundreds of thousands of people haven’t been doing this for years.

For anyone unsure of the term ‘whitesplaining’, Smith’s tweets are a perfect example.

Thanks for finally tuning in to the cause, Sam."

"If a white singer dominating at the MOBOs wasn’t bad enough, the same dude wants to lead a crusade against racism." Lord :rip:

My thoughts on this:

Of course Sam I dont think sam is racist but I do think he's delusional and wanted to use this opportunity to make himself look like a hero even though millions of people are aware of this tragedy. He shouldn't have played the victim and maybe if he didn't focus too much on his feelings then he wouldn't be getting a tremendous amount of backlash. He is highly annoying so I'm not angry about him getting the backlash but I do find this drama to be entertaining and juicy

I don't think he did anything that wrong. But I don't like him. So he's guilty.

People really wants to drag someone for no reason, he didn't play the victim, he just shared his thought on the situation.

Whispering

It seems to me that he witnessed a racial incident directed at his friend and was disgusted by it, especially the fact that law inforcement was of no help.

What's wrong with that? The problem here isn't Sam, it's people picking him apart for sticking up for a friend and being upset over something that should be upsetting to all human beings.

They didn't include the reactions on metro but people find it suspicious that he is speechless because in the past he talked about racism in the uk but now it's shocking to him out of nowhere because his friend got faced with hate crime but it wasn't shocking to him in the past. It also doesn't sit well since he won awards at Music of Black Origin awards. It's all in good heart but the writing is a bit odd.

That was indeed not the best way to describe his feelings about the situation. I'm talking about how he didn't include anything about his friend in a tweet. He did the right thing by talking about it though. I hope with every fibre of my being that he does not apologise. Apologies have become way too common and they have lost all meaning and purpose.

You will never please everyone.

I don't think there's anything wrong with him being upset over his friend but the tone of the tweets sounds like he's made a grand discovery. "I feel like I have to shine some sort of light on it" ..... I mean racism has been a thing forever, you aren't gonna come an be the savior of minorities.... I kinda see why some may be upset because it sounds like he's making it about himself.

The backlash is so unnecessary though. Twitter making a big deal out of everything as usual.
