Of course Gaga and her influencers have to acknowledge the underperformance of ARTPOP to help sell the new release. I don't read too much into this/Elton's comments. It's all part of the marketing. ReidOne 12,427 Posted January 20, 2016 Share Posted January 20, 2016 The other thing we have to remember about Gaga's music and career is that, she is now the employer and leader of a team of dozens (hundreds?) of folks, whose livelihood depend on the success of her creative output. She is in the terribly awkward position of having to release music that satiates her fan base, while also achieving enough commercial success to secure the employment of all the real people behind her who are running the machine. He listened to some of the material for ARTPOP before the album was even finished. He could have listened to Brooklyn Nights, Sire or maybe even Princess Die.
