Diane defending Gaga

Perry literally just shared her opinion on crediting songwriters. Everyone literally needs to calm down, she has not discredited Gaga - she can't discredit her, she has no credit to give when she had no involvement with TIHTY whatsoever. This is nothing more than a conspiracy theory.

If Diane believed Gaga's contribution, however great or small, is worth a songwriting credit, that is to her discretion to decide. She shouldn't be needing to defend her decision regarding her song

I'm not sure if the debate is about weather Linda is right or not. We have known since day one how gaga's contribution to the song came about. They never pretended she did more than what they made public. The way they described it, Gaga going in the studio with Diane changing accords, and melodies and the progression of the song sound legit and they have been consistent with it.

On melodies etc, that is a separate from songwriting and belongs in production.

Many are fully aware that this is Diane's song, but by giving songwriting credit to Gaga for a few words in the final version it gives the false illusion that she has had substantial input to deserve credit. It calls her previous (and future) discography into question - did she write Bad Romance or did she actually just write one line?

Given that songwriting is such an important facet of her career to her, I think she should be doing more to defend public perception of her songwriting.

Expressing your opinion, as some of you are saying Linda did, has a complete limit & it's known as slander. While Linda bluntly try to damage Gaga's reputation with those Tweets, they're obviously a hazy form of slander all on their own.

Academy Award for Best Original Song

It is presented to the songwriters who have composed the best original song written specifically for a film. The performers of a song are not credited with the Academy Award unless they contributed either to music, lyrics or both in their own right.

Even if Gaga only changed one line; she composed the whole damn song on her own. She has every right to nominated.

Even if Gaga only changed one line; she composed the whole damn song on her own. You're correct, she doesn't need to defend anything.

Exactly! It honestly just seems she drew her opinion based on little to no research of the song other than comparing Diane's demo to the final version.

Agreed. There was literally no point for her to even bring up her "opinion" other than to cause drama and discredit Gaga.

Again, the sonic part of the song is also part of the songwriting. It is not just the lyrics.

A songwriter is an individual who writes the lyrics, melodies and chord progressions for songs, typically for a popular music genre such aspop music or country music. A songwriter can also be called a composer, although the latter term tends to be mainly used for individuals from the classical music genre.
