If the rumour is true, then Gaga deserves the embarrassment. Yes I know it's harsh but it's US, the fans that she is fooling! I thought Gaga had more integrity.

Linda didn't say anything we didn't know though :emma:

This is what confuses me :rip: The only thing that Linda said that we didn't already know was that she doesn't think Gaga deserves the co-writing credit. This is based 100% on how she thinks of songwriting. We know that Diane doesn't feel the same way.

Basically we have two identical stories, but two different points of view. That's it. Either you think Gaga did enough to deserve a co-writing credit (I think she did), or you don't. So this is just a matter of opinion. Which makes it even more absurd that people pretend this is some major conflict.

Don't really know what is completely happening but I have an idea because of the titles of some topics. However I agree with what you're saying because some people here always overreact and turn the smallest things into a mess.

EDIT: I'm reading what happened and now I agree with you 100%.

Honestly, y'all are so goddamn messy that y'all made me come out of my hiatus. Unbelievable.

The one Linda is actually taking jabs at is Diane. Because clearly she says that Diane compromised her artistic integrity by giving Gaga credits for the sake of publicity. And that's just funny because nobody but the 1,000 music freaks of the world actually give a **** about that. The academy sure as hell doesn't.

Not to mention that Diane said on multiple occasions that she would rather die than give somebody credit on a song they don’t deserve (fun fact: Nile Rodgers proposed one cord change in TIHTY and did not get a writing credit for it) while Linda Perry has been exposed before for giving Christina Aguilera major writing credits for Hurt when in the end all she came up with was one chord.

I get the sentiment that it's pretty much Diane's story and words, but a song is so much more than just the lyrics. It's arrangements, chords, the melody on the top as well. During the podcast Diane said that they bickered a lot during recording/writing because Gaga wanted more complicated chords and Diane wanted the simple ones ("I can't believe it! Diane Warren likes simple chords????"), that they fought over the melodies and that ultimately Gaga's suggestions were included in the second verse and the bridge. Considering how candidly they recall in-depth songwriting issues, it would be pretty rich to say that Gaga wrote NONE of TIHTY. It's not like she bought a demo from a struggling singer, changed two letters from a word in the chorus and boom she's the ASCAP songwriter of the year.

Thanks Didy!

Let's not blow this out of proportion. We cannot be doing with the negative publicity right before the Oscars and Grammy's.

Just ignore her guys. Even if it is true, Gaga produced the song; therefore she will still get awarded (I think?)

In my messy era.

So, according to Linda the song used to be called Til You Got A Hole Ripped In Your Soul...

The song was re-titled to TIHTY after working with Gaga...and considering that a huge portion of the lyrics of that song say the phrase "Til It Happens To You" and there is no mention of souls having holes ripped in them...then you have to believe a lot more was changed than one line. Lol! Oh Linda! You so silly.

Just a reminder: the line "til you got a hole ripped in your soul" was replaced with "til you're at the end, the end of your rope" :rip: Linda's not talking about the title.

"Warren, who writes songs but never sings them publicly, nevertheless gave Gaga a little vocal tease of her ideas. "It was just beautiful," says Gaga, who cried. "Then we met and I started to play it and sing it and I would say, 'Diane, what do you think of this?' " She continues, "She took what she already had, and then she gave it to me and she said, 'Make it yours.' " One of Gaga's major contributions was taking a song that was somber throughout and making it increasingly triumphant and defiant as it progressed. Warren was thrilled — "She had this whole vision for it," she marvels now. And, in Gaga's words, "It became two women together, standing strong.""

She changed one line according to Perry. That does not deserve a writing credit in my opinion. Especially for such a prestigious award.

And after being awarded for being a songwriter at a event that Linda Perry was at! I am not surprised that she tweeted about the songwriting credit not being genuine.

That was changed for  'Til you're at the end, the end of your rope' not 'TIHTY'

Well, I can see why you say that. I understand Diane's logic too.

I'm not really deciding on the issue. All I know is that if this were about any other artist than Gaga, 99% of this fanbase would be on Linda's side :gaycat:

Somebody should tweet Linda the interview link people have mentioned on here where Gaga and Diane talk about the song and where Gaga never claimed to write the lyrics and where they talk about the collaboration of what Gaga added to the song in the final version.
