Diane and Gaga have openly shared their writing experiences for the song together and i think that Gaga did have a significant impact on the outcome of the song, whether it be songwriting and production.

it is clear that the Academy would have done their homework before announcing the nominations - especially with Gaga's name being tagged along with Diane's.

nevertheless, it is a great song and they both most definitely deserve this award.

But the media it's already making up the whole story. Make sure to check the DailyMail comments on the article, everyone it's bashing Gaga.This makes me feel so sad, Linda definitely hurt the chances of Gaga and Dianne winning the Oscar, and the predictions already went -10% down.

Well, I knew that. I still stand by my answer I doubt those voters care. Diane is a well-known songwriter (esp. at the Oscars) and if she's ok with Gaga sharing songwriter credits no serious voter would ever think Gaga somehow wormed her way in and therefore the song's nomination is disqualified from winning.

Also, Gaga and Diane already met with the Academy's music branch and performed the song in private. That's how you win.

yes, it's difficult to read others talking disrespectfully towards someone you admire but Daily Mail is kind of known to have users bash all celebrities.

Gaga's definitely still eligible. As the O.P. stated, let's say that Gaga didn't provide any lyrical value to the song—which I find hard to believe—even if she didn't, she still produced the song. 

What gets me the most angry about this rumor is that Linda Perry just tarnished a song that was very clearly personal to Gaga. I mean, the song's suppose to educate people about the dangers of rape, and she just tarnished some people's perspectives of a beautiful song. 

Though, trust me, it's not going to hurt her at the Oscars, the situation will die out within days.

Linda Perry may be credited as the songwriter on “Hands of Love,” the moving end-title theme to Freeheld performed by Miley Cyrus, but the former 4 Non Blondes leader says she didn’t write it.

“I don’t take ownership in something that beautiful, because it comes from somewhere else,” she says. The seeds of the soaring anthem came to Perry immediately after a screening of the indie film, now in theaters, about a cancer-stricken female detective (Julianne Moore) who fights five Freehold, N.J., councilmen to have her domestic partner (Ellen Page) receive her pension benefits.

Moved by the performances and Hans Zimmerand Johnny Marr’s score, Perry grabbed her phone and began singing into it. “All of a sudden, I hear lyrics, melody, the chords -- it’s just all kind of coming,” she says. By the time she played it on piano for the movie’s producers less than an hour later, the song was nearly completed. “I think they thought I was on drugs or something. They were like, ‘There’s no way you’re going to tell us you wrote a song in 45 minutes on the way from the movie to here,” she says.

Producer/musician Kerry Brown, with whom Perry worked on Hole’s 2010 album, Nobody’s Daughter (“We met through the chaos ofCourtney [Love]," Perry says) is married to Stacey Sher, one of the movie’s producers. He thought Perry would be perfect to write the theme even though she’s previously walked away from movie work because filmmakers “want the temp song. It hurts by feelings. I get too sensitive and emotional about it,” she says. “This was completely the opposite.”

Page asked Cyrus to perform the theme. “She just came in so generous and classy. I was shocked,” Perry says. “She is my favorite person out there right now because she is doing it her way.” Cyrus ran through the song three times. Within two weeks of Perry seeing the film, the song was mixed and mastered. RCA digitally released the song last week.

With Oscar talk already surrounding the movie’s performances, Perry -- who released a children’s album with wife Sara Gilbert three weeks ago -- may also be in the running for best original song. “Wouldn’t it be awesome if we got a nomination for song too?” she says. “I’m not going to lie. That would be f---ing incredible.”

Diane has said herself that the song sounds like it's in 3 parts, I suppose the fact that Gaga inserted some sort of story within the song is another reason she received more songwriting credit.

It's just hard for me to see them lie about this, especially when Diane doesn't usually co-write with others and it's such a deeply personal song. I don't see it being beneficial promo wise if Gaga was credited main rather than co-writer (I would actually think, with Diane's history with nominations it would be more beneficial if Diane was credited as the main writer). The promo explanation just doesn't make sense to me. 

The promo explanation is likely based on the fact that having Gaga as a cowriter (or main writer) guaranteed even more Oscar buzz if/when it was nominated/wins. Diane had so many nominations but no wins yet, just another song up doesn't add anything special. Gaga, the it-girl atm, going for her first Academy Award? That's more of an interesting story (and more likely to pull votes...)

Becuase you're right in the sense that having Gagas vocals on it already gave it plenty of promo which wouldn't have changed if she didn't have the credit. 

To me, it sounds like a veiled attempt to attack Gagas claim on the Oscar, not at Diane's tactics for promo methods (although like I mentioned above you could see how these two can be related)

 

EDIT: Since it mentioned reps for both Gaga and Diane were reached out to I'm expecting at least Diane to clear this up on Twitter to calm everything down
