Sure, she made it sound more aggressive etc. to make it sound like a victory song, but I don't recall her saying she actually changed Diane's basic composition. Someone here earlier said Gaga made more complex chords, but there are no complex chords in TIHTY and I can't imagine how they could be any more simple tbh. I mean, if Gaga herself said the song was pretty much finished when she got connected to the project and they only made changes to widen the demographic, then why should we believe she changed something substantial about the composition itself? I just think Diane gave it to her not because she changed melodies and chords, but just because the song sounded and felt entirely different after their meeting. Not necessarily a major change in composition. I mean, you have to remember that Linda says someone else was planned to sing the song so there's just no way Gaga wrote the melody. Well we know that it started off rather somber we can see a difference from the earlier version that leaked and we don't know if it had been changes slightly even before then. The tempo and some chords are different. I'd be talking out my ass if I pretended to know anything about songwriting really, It's just that I don't see the benefit of Gaga being the main writer rather than the co-writer. Promo just doesn't seem like the answer, especially due to the fact that Diane is constantly nominated for her songs. I mean from the video above I can indeed see why Diane would think the song sounded and felt different. It just seems like the most likely explanation to me that the situation is similar to Elton when he writes songs from Bernie's lyrics or Katy when she writes the 'topline melody' for her songs and is credited as the main writer while Bonnie Mckee ,who is well respected for her songwriting ability, is often at the end of the songwriting credits (even after the producers Dr. Luke and Max Martin). In the podcast Diane and Gaga were talking about how they would argue about key-changes that Gaga wanted to add and all that stuff. The promo explanation just doesn't seem to do it for me, this feels like a more reasonable explanation. Diane has said herself that the song sounds like it's in 3 parts, I suppose the fact that Gaga inserted some sort of story within the song is another reason she received more songwriting credit. It's just hard for me to see them lie about this, especially when Diane doesn't usually co-write with others and it's such a deeply personal song. I don't see it being beneficial promo wise if Gaga was credited main rather than co-writer (I would actually think, with Diane's history with nominations it would be more beneficial if Diane was credited as the main writer). The promo explanation just doesn't make sense to me.
Bambino 24,290
I think she's just pressed. Why didn't she speak about this when the song was released? Why did she wait til Gaga was nominated for an Oscar and then made this whole mess?
Stef 61,598
This has been playing on my mind for a while now and I would like to think not. After checking Wiki I found this however: It says that anyone who contributes to the music, lyrics, or both is eligible for a nomination. We all know that Gaga produced TIHTY so regardless of these accusations, would Gaga have still been eligible? If not, do you think her chances for the award have been tarnished. It may also be worth noting that on Gold Derby, her chances have gone down by 5% since the accusations. (Gold Derby have successfully predicted Best Original Song for the past 4 years) Mods feel free to move this or delete it if its isnt worthy of discussion, I've always respected Linda Perry and I'd hate to think that she'd just tarnish her chances like that Signature loading… 👹🖤
Katie14 4,828
Writing isnt just about lyrics, production, or melody though. Gaga changed the feel of the song by the way she sang it. I think that definitely counts for something. Why is Linda getting involved anyway? Its really none of her business at all.
Bambino 24,290
That could've been possible if that person made that mess before the nominations were out. I think that she'd be fine because she and Diane are both nominated now.
Sunny 12,736
Can she be more pressed? :ew: I like dancin', and ponies....
Yanko 9,860
it may hurt their chances the media is already picking the story up and gaga would still be eligible because she produced it (i think) linda should have kept it to herself. shes obviously salty that her song did not get a nomination
Angel Down 2,807
If only she doesn't win that oscar just because of Linda
lxdygxga 3,353
I don't think this will hurt their chances - they're already nominated, and she is fully credited as a writer and producer. If anything, I expect this to blow over fairly quickly, especially if Diane and/or Gaga comment.

Glamourpuss 29,062
I am a big fan of Lady Gaga and will support her through anything. But if Linda Perry is correct then I am really disappointed with Gaga. I thought she had more artistic integrity. I won't stop rooting for her to win, but it's just really disappointing when you find out the dirty truth of what goes on behind the scenes. I trusted Gaga when she told us she is an artist and wasn't happy about putting out a perfume and being a cash cow for a business (her record company). Yet she is a complete sell out if Linda is correct.
Music 15,215
i truly hope not. Diane and Gaga have openly shared their writing experiences for the song together and i think that Gaga did have a significant impact on the outcome of the song, whether it be songwriting and production. it is clear that the Academy would have done their homework before announcing the nominations - especially with Gaga's name being tagged along with Diane's. nevertheless, it is a great song and they both most definitely deserve this award. gag 22,449
It tarnished my patience for this fanbase. Spoiler This is @ the rude comments on Linda's Twitter, btw. headspin, happiness, DE̤̣A̢̯͔̘T͏͙̗̟̫H̗̙͡ͅ

Personally, I get what you're saying but I don't think it's that strange. It's like Madonna, Katy, Beyoncé,... appearing first in the credits list, not because they did the most but just because they have the most well-known name and they look bad when they're all the way in the back (though in some cases, like Bey's 4 this does happen). I don't need more of an explanation than that tbh. I mean, it's just unthinkable that Gaga wrote/created more for the song than Diane
