"A songwriter is an individual who writes the lyrics, melodies and chord progressions for songs, typically for a popular music genre such as pop music or country music."

read the definition first.songwriting is not just about writing lyrics :awkney:

The same fans who are desperately playing semantic games about what it means to be a song writer and what it means to be a lyricist wouldn't hesitate to condemn any other artists in Gaga's position right now. See: Every conversation about Beyonce's abilities as a song writer.

As I stated earlier in this thread, it benefits both Gaga and Warren to exaggerate Gaga's role in the song writing process, so I don't have trouble believing what Linda Perry is tweeting.

Exactly what I'm saying. It makes no sense? She's not stupid, she knows this will tarnish both of their images yet she's still making a big deal out of it. Here's the explanation, though -

"Not in my book". Because Gaga didn't write the whole song, it's not Gaga's song to her. In the same way some of us don't consider some of Rihanna's songs to be hers or any artist that performs a song but didn't write it. Gaga made this song. She invested her heart into it and made it what it is but that's not enough for Linda to consider her a writer. That's her hang up, though.

She's doing this "I'm exposing my truth" integrity bit, but you know, Diane is a fellow songwriter, the way she handles her song is none of Linda Perry's business really. She likes to portray she's helping songwriters everywhere, but she's actually harming Diane's reputation. The way she's going about this is going to reflect badly on Diane and Gaga by bringing this type of controversy and scrutiny into it. Even though you don't have to write lyrics to be considered a co-writer, that sort of technicality will get lost in this debate with "but she didn't write the lyrics tho" argument. Regardless, she has no proof that Gaga didn't write that last bit.

Oh yeah, I agree. This is pointless and serves no purpose but to garner attention to her as a sort of "artistic integrity whistle-blower" and negative attention on Diane and Gaga. The sort that could cost them this Oscar and hurt their image.

This mess also takes attention away from the song. Getting the songs message out there by having Gaga involved, and by getting it exposed at a huge platform like the Oscars seemed to be the whole point. Now I'm worried that this type of buzz will overshadow everything.

It probably will. She made it sound like they conspired from day one to make an Oscar winning smash instead of just making a song to bring attention to a cause and express pain that they've both been through.

Ok, now this is just rude, she knows exactly what she's doing.

They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

Okay. Is there any chance that because of these allegations their chance of winning oscar will drop?

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.

lmfao

But I mean really, you're using your Twitter account for this? Anyone with half a brain could figure out that Gaga just changed the sound of the song (which technically doesn't make her a co-writer indeed) just from the interviews Gaga and Diane did together. I'm sure Diane just gave her the credit because it was a collaborative project and the song wouldn't have been the same without Gaga's decisions.

Can't lie though, if the tables were turned and this was about Beyoncé (or any pop artist but Gaga, really) all the "pressed artists coming for Gaga's acclaim" comments would all be replaced with "yasss clock that talentless bitch she doesn't deserve to be credited" ones so it's kind of entertaining to see people handle this anyway.

That's not true. We always criticize Gaga for everything:awkney:

I'm a fan of a woman who arrives to award shows by egg and by horse back, so I'm not going to criticizes someone else for being an attention seeker.
