MJHolland 12,723
Don't not vote for bernie because he's unelectable, vote for someone else because Sanders is a freaking socialist. I don't understand how many socialist states will have to fail in order to drill that into people's mind. The free market is the only way in which a country can have sustainable economic grow. Sanders is trying to make America more like countries such as the ones in Scandinavia which have a blend of capitalist and socialist elements (and have the highest rates of happiness in the world) Socialist values DO work, he's not a communist, even Britain is based on socialist values such as our national health service, which is much better than america's 'free-market' healthcare service which is so ridiculously expensive A country based entirely on the free market will only leave the poor poorer and the rich richer, Sanders is trying to stop inequality Sorry about this rant I just really want Sanders as president
Iwontell 7,312
Well, I get what she meant, tbh... Bernie's "straightforward " posture might chase a lot of votes away from the democratic party, if he turns out to be their candidate, increasing the chances of a republican victory...I mean, with Hillary there's probably less risk of defeat - if only for the fact that she doesn't identify herself as a "socialist" (as he did in national TV recently), a word that still intimidates a lot of people... By the way, Bernie is actually a social democrat, not a socialist (he shouldn't let people confuse the two things, it works against him)...a social democrat believes in the capitalist mode of production, but understands that the government has to intervene to counteract the grave distortions that pure capitalism (the classical liberalism, based on the idea of a free market) creates - which is something that most people, I think, would agree with (I mean, this is a field where all we have to go by is historical experience and when you look at moments in which "free market" was left to "run things", you see rich people getting richer, poor people becoming even poorer and social conditions deteriorating...the social effects of a moment like the industrial revolution, for example, are dreadful and not be repeated again. Meanwhile, you look at countries like Sweden, Norway or Japan, that follow a social democratic model and everything seems much better...of course, no talks about the heavy taxation in these countries and about how hard it is to maintain fiscal responsibility when the government has so many social programs to sustain...). Anyway, I do align with Bernie, but I do understand that Hillary would face less obstacles as a presidential candidate...(maybe I'm not making any sense and only saying obvious **** , I'm really sleepy). ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.
PoshLife 16,904
Regarding Jordan's tweet: what is wrong with wanting a woman to be president? What is wrong with thinking the highest office in this country - the leader of the free world - should be a woman for a change? A woman clearly could not do worse than some of the men who have been given the opportunity. Men are never questioned about whether gender has to do with which candidate they support. Women shouldn't either, and it's entirely sexist that they so constantly are. But Sanders' supporters are so hypnotized by Bernie that they'll sink to Republican-esque attacks towards their fellow Democrats which will only hurt our party in the end. Edit: I probably shouldn't have wasted my time writing this - this post is more words than Jordan has followers - but I've noticed this over the past few months and it's very nauseating. As a French, I'm quite proud of our socialist legacy : our healhcare would make every american jealous and the 35-hours workweek has made us the most productive employees in Europe while having enough time to care of our other activities. Socialism isn't a disease that has to be supressed, a good government would be a gouvernment that take in considerations the best of each side. There is nothing wrong about a woman president, but don't let it be Hillary. Most of the idiots voting for her are only voting because she's a woman and from what I've seen, she's a crazed feminist. On Another Note: From what my obsessed political friend has told me about her, she has been running an organization for years where she murders/kills people? And gets away with it? ⚜ Roll Deep ⚜
