It does often seem that way. Surely there are a great many talented black actors that could play more versatile roles. I think it probably just comes among with the still present preconceptions that come along with black people, or any minority really. When you have a person of a small minority in a film it seems they just can't be portrayed as normal. I can tell you now that the percentage of Hollywood actors who are openly gay probably matches or surpasses the amount of actors who are black. It's never a big deal when gay people can't get 'normal' roles in film. Or asian men having to play comedic roles, older women not being cast in films, etc, etc. It's the public that isn't willing to accept changes to their perceptions of who can be what.

This sounds about right. It's all about marketability and what Hollywood perceives that the average viewing public wants to see on their screens.

Yes, it's beautiful, soothing but it also can be a hymn if performed the right way. The music is taunting and the poem is beautiful. It also takes be to the ocean, in a way.

"Till it happens to you" is very poor in comparison.

Kill me and burn me, but "Till it happens.." is garbage compared to Simple song #3. If Sumi Jo's voice was like it was 20 years ago i would say this is the winner right away.

I actually feel like the winner should be The Weeknd. But don't always like that song. But it's very representative of the movie and has a great melody.

What helps here is the message that come with TIHTY, for me it's a good song. I don't want them to give an award to Fitfy Shade, it's a good song but in my opinion not an Oscar worthy song.

Anyway, Diane now has 8 nominations and I hope she wins, I really want TIHTY to win, it's a simple song compared to the others but a powerful one and that makes it a beautiful song, to me: TIHTY is winning it.

I just think they could have done a better job. The intro is a bit sloppy, i don't like the arrangement (the movement of the voices doesn't make much sense and it loses some power). And i think the chorus is a bit strange once it repeats, i miss something. It happens again when it goes back to the verse. The problem really lies in the beginning

It's overall pretty good melody and the lyrics are fine. Don't like the till it happens to you idea very much, but it's a fine song. I love that song. But it has too many flaws for me.

It's certainly the most pungent song, with an effective performance it's a stand out song.

I loathe his hair personally. 

It's not cool and looks tacky as ****. Then again that's just my view he probably thinks it looks amazing even though it makes him look like he wears laundry lint.

Til It Happens To You, a critics' favorite wasn't eligible for the Golden Globe. Writing's On The Wall won as opposed to See You Again, which surprised a lot of people. It became even more surprising that See You Again wasn't nominated for the Oscar at all.

So the tradition indicates that Writing's On The Wall stands a good chance at winning the Oscar, but Skyfall was the only Bond theme song that won it, not to mention WOTW doesn't have the acclaim/positive reception Skyfall had. It isn't even nominated for the Grammy. For the Grammys, Glory (2015 Oscar winner) and (another Oscar winning song, possibly: Earned It or Til It Happens To You) are going to compete with each other.

What I'm saying is, the competition is intense.

Two of the last five Golden Globe winning songs have gone on to win the Oscar award that same year. Three of the five have been different. There really isn't a clear tradition as far as the GG winner getting an Oscar, so that's good news!
