Based on all this, Bowie obviously wasn't the perfect individual. While because it was in the past doesn't justify the actions in the present, it's obvious to acknowledge that things (particularly the age of the groupies) were perceived differently as they are now. Same with his comments of fascism and, thus, racism.

All we really can do now is learn from the past for paving a better future for everybody else. Unfortunately, there's no confirmation on whether or not Bowie has learned from his actions, but I'm assuming he did considering his retraction of his past comments on fascism. Still, benefit of the doubt.

That said, I feel like it's more efficient to shift this energy to people who's surrounding sensationalism and idolizing have shrouded their much more (possible) heinous actions in the past- Sean Penn, Woody Allen, and such.

My condolences to Bowie's friends and family, and to Gaga for losing a huge inspiration in her life.

Much of this is a such a stretch. 

Why are we talking about Bowie? Because many people want to acknowledge him for the music genius that he was. You are free to leave the thread and to avoid all other threads and news about him, just like others are free to discuss his legacy and the impact it had on their lives.

Dude. I already told you I don't know definitively. I never argued the argument you're saying I argued. I'm not sure why you keep diminishing the husband of a woman of color, and the father of a child of color into a "befriending a black person" argument-- but you're the one that keeps projecting that argument. Not me. I made a joke about how his wife of 24 years might have more weight than a comment from a coked out man in the 70's BUT ultimately I don't know.

If he's a racist, that sucks. I'm not defending that mentality. I just said I hope you're sure. You seemed supportive of the idea that Michael was acquitted so therefore not guilty of what he was accused of despite so many horrible accusations, and I agree with you. I hope you wouldn't be so quick to condemn someone without substantial and irrefutable evidence, especially because some of the greatest champions of a cause can be those who made the mistake against it in the past.

You CAN be racist and be married to someone of color. My uncle is racist as they come (I've heard the N word more than once) yet is engaged to a Hispanic woman. However, I do not believe Bowie is racist. Flawed? Yes. Evil? No.
