StrawberryBlond 14,820
People have to remember that the GG awards look for different things compared to the Oscars. That's why people like Madonna can get nominated and/or win a GG but fail to even scrape an Oscar nomination. The Oscars are all about being serious and strait laced, and that includes off screen personalities. If you're an actor who is known for being rude and gets caught up in scandals, you won't even get invited never mind nominated. For the Oscars, it's all about reputation, in more ways than one. You'll notice that the only people who are ever nominated/win Oscars are those who are regarded as serious actors who have been renowed for their abilities right from the start. You will rarely see a newcomer get nominated/win and it's even rarer to see a mediocre actor with one outstanding performance win anything either. You'll notice that Jennifer Aniston was nominated for her first ever GG as a leading actress in a movie for her role in Cake...but failed to get a lookin at the Oscars. That's because she doesn't have a good reputation for acting in general. At the Oscars, one brilliant performance isn't enough to override a lifetime of bad acting in bad movies. And obviously, Madonna was perhaps a bit too controversial to entertain Oscar nominations either and also had a bad acting reputation. The GG's are different. They just want to praie good acting, regardless of where it came from or its history. They're prepared to overlook previous bad acting and give someone a chance if they pulled something amazing out of the bag just once. They're prepared to nominate a slightly lower calibre of acting in order to make a more versatile show. They sometimes go for surprising, unpredictable choices to shake things up. With all that in mind, Gaga's win was completely understandable and there is no reason to suspect it was bought. If AHS were a movie and she won an Oscar for it, then there'd be raised eyebrows. But as it stands, the GG's are just more lenient, always have been. I actually never watched AHS in full but judging from the clips I've seen, she played her part very well. The role is supposed to be played in a slightly campy way, it's not a series that's meant to be taken stone cold seriously. There's all different ways you can play a villain and Gaga went for the slightly campy, stereotypical dominatrix seductress role. And she did it very well and should get praised for it. People think this kind of acting is so easy to do until they actually attempt it themselves. A role like this requires someone who has powerful sex appeal and fire in them and not everyone has that. Gaga however, has those qualities in spades. It was noticed and awarded. Simple.

Hopefully she will be involved in more interesting roles that show more depth than we have seen from her so far.I'd love for her to take on a real serious movie role. She has the chops, for sure. She took a thinly-written character like "The Countess", who was required to be so many things at once, and she made it all seem like one cohesive person. That's talent. So imagine what she can do with a great script and a great director.

Mythos 3,199
I watched for the first time the speech she gave at the GG, and it got me wondering, why did she tell "I've always wanted to be an actress, even before music, but well, music happened first..."? It's the first time i've read or heard something like that from her, and it got me wondering. Has she got tired from the music world and wants to move on? I wouldn'T blame her, she should be happy, no matter what that is, but it's still kinda weird to hear something like that from her.
