Lady Gaga/Stefani Germanotta is the type of stage presence-talent that would be on our minds whether she was a worldwide sensation or a local NYC bar act. She's simply captivating and endlessly talented. And I personally find her at her "best" to be in excess of "the greatest" to ever do the job before her.

If you called her "Record creation", then I wonder why would she spend so much time with the songs/album she put out. Not coming for Britney, but if she's a "product" then she'll be like Britney and release everything the label/company wants.

Again, the age argument. I doubt that is true; I recognized Michael Jackson as the King of Pop even prior to his death. I knew Elvis was the "King of Rock and Roll" before I turned 10 and I didn't even have an appreciation for him then. I knew Donna Summers was "The Queen of Disco" in elementary school and so did many of my friends. It was simply general, recurring knowledge. Like the source you showed me above would indicate, out of fall of the people I've asked, the opinion on who "The Queen of Pop" varies greatly. Like I said earlier, sadly someone will probably have to die before they achieve such recognition. Madonna is likely to get that title, but even though it is common knowledge to you and others in the pop community, its not common knowledge to everyone just yet. 

You didn't know M as the queen of pop as a kid because Madonna is viewed as not child friendly at all so people try to keep her away from children.  She was a special kind of controversial that was never seen before and hasn't been seen again, it's a part of her legacy and it's why she doesn't have a young fanbase like other significant modern music figures. However the point still stands that EVERYONE knows Madonna as the queen of pop who got to experience a Madonna era at a reasonable age. This isn't opinions or stan logic, this is Madonna's place in modern culture, which was cemented decades ago.

Furthermore if you want to stop talking about arcane nonense like ""impact"" I can post some receipts of Madonna's commercial success, not that you haven't heard them already with Madonna being the queen of pop and you going on pop forums though

Not sure why this turned into a debate about superficial titles when the OP is talking about talent  Clearly MJ and Madonna are the respective king & queen of pop, due to their immense cultural impact & legacy. But neither of them were exceptionally gifted at singing or songwriting in the way Gaga is. Like the OP said, Gaga is the total package.

Excluding dancing, Gaga has them beat in every category imo. For this reason, I do think she's the greatest of all time. Will she be remembered as such in 20 years? That's still up in the air. But even if she isn't I will still have this opinion.

I love Gaga and she can carry a choreography *okay*, but that doesn't mean she excels at it. She's very far from being an impressive dancer. You can't even say Gaga was one of the best pop dancers in the mid 2000s when we still had Madonna, the BEP, Justin Bieber (no matter how much you hate him, he's a good dancer), Shakira, Justin Timberlake, Ciara, and of course Beyonce.

Except for the Judas picture you posted, the rest were when she had the hip injury so she couldn't dance very well. That's why i specified "early BTW era".

As a dancer myself, I can tell she is definitely an above average dancer. She might not always be on sync because she has to do the lyric-motions and the singing, but her moves (in the eras i mentioned) are VERY sharp.

I like her dancing. She's moving with a lot of grace and sexiness, whereas her dancers are maybe more professional but also more quadratic. (robotic?) It's probably on purpose to expose her as the better dancer in front of them tho.

Certainly not, but if we're talking pure pop acts (ie artists who can't be grouped under any other genre) then Gaga is certainly the best of the last 10 years. There's a reason why she was so lauded by critics after The Fame (Monster) and hailed as the next coming of Michael Jackson, that was an unbelievable pop album and era in popular culture that was brimming with new ideas and creative expertise.

But since she hasn't been able to reach those same heights since then it's unreasonable put her in the all-time discussion already. After The Fame Monster she resorted more to copying 80's pop acts and repeating herself to diminishing returns, and her concepts and visuals haven't been as well executed and realized. Assuming her next album and era are the return to top form that they likely will be we could revisit the discussion afterwards.

But I knew about her in elementary school also.  I have no doubt that she deserves or has earned the title (she has and then some), I just think its perceived differently than how these other titles are perceived--it is not as widely accepted or known as the others in my experience. Ex. King of Pop, Queen of Disco, Queen of Soul. When you say those words certain artist's names are immediately thought of. Its not that simple with "Queen of Pop" in the realm of everyday life--separate from stan culture. We differ in opinion but I guess thats a testament to how diverse pop culture perception can be. 

 

To remain on topic, I agree with other people that Gaga is the total package and is shaping up to be one of the greatest pop acts of all time. Only time will tell, but it looks promising imo.

God no. Her music is just too mediocre for that (as of now). When I even think of comparing BTW and ARTPOP to half of Madonna's discography (not even mentioning Michael's) I have to laugh out loud. She has the pop star aura and she did some incredible things, but overall her body of work isn't strong enough to qualify for that. And I don't care how many people love to brag about her ability to write songs and sing properly, if she doesn't show it on her albums that means **** and you know it.

It's way too early anyway. She clearly hasn't reached her true potential. So I'm fine with waiting for that. It's not like I can only enjoy artists who I believe are supposed to be the greatest of all time.

Edit: Out of all the pop girls right now though, she's the only one to ever qualify for it. Thought I'd add that so y'all didn't think I was just hating on her.
