I almost cried, I was extremely disappointed with myself I'm always careful when it comes to my phone, and I was horrified when I picked up my phone. Luckily my parents weren't home and I was able to go to Apple and get the screen replaced before a family party I like to keep my phones in good condition so that when I buy a new one, my little cousin(s) won't have an old run-down phone when I pass my old one to them. Yes I bought the cheapest phone charger because I needed it quickly, and I forgot to unplug it when I made a call. It made this weird hissing sound, and smoke flew out of the bottom. That is how some iPhones blew up, cos they were charging it with knock off charger. But what additional products are you getting? Whatever I get I normally get the warranty that gives me a free accessory when the other one dies/explodes/melts/etc. I just don't really get the big issue here. Warholian 6,880
I like how nobody here gets that things actually have to be sacrificed in the name of progress. Apple is one of the only tech companies willing to go against what the public wants, and that's the only way things can change and get better. Kevin Parker, Mac Demarco, Mark Ronson, and a stoned Lady Gaga. Need I say more?
Haroon 49,685
It'd save space and make things more streamlined for the device so it makes sense to me Change and progress are made when things like this happen, we can't just stick with the standard earphone jack thing forever just because that's how it's been for ages One day it will change and if the beginning of that change is now then so be it, just bare in mind that a few years down the line it'll be seen as a very necessary change towards the bigger picture The transition period is always a bit trickier, but once all is over and done with it's all good

arthurhmangum 4,408
Why would they not put a headphone jack in a phone? Stressed, depressed, but well dressed.

You'll be able to buy an adaptor cheaply or one will come with the device (phones like the old Sony Ericsson's did) that allows you to plug the standard headphones in. The headphone jack serves no purpose if you can move the function to another port. I used to have a Sony Ericsson k550i and it was a very ugly situation - each and every accessory for the device had to be compatible with the phone's individual port only. You could not use other phones' chargers or headphones. Let's not get back to those time please. And I can't imagine why anyone would agree buying a device with a single port meant for everything. The sacrifices people are ready to make in the name of a couple of mm less... #bendgate2016

My Sony Ericsson came with one anyway so I never did but they were pretty cheap - The only sacrifice is going to be spending like £2 on a cheap adaptor, it's no biggy at all. Haroon 49,685
One issue I see coming is if someone wants to charge their phone while listening to music If the removal plan does go ahead then hopefully they'll have already addressed this problem

I actually had one like these from ebay. They deteriorated sound quality and helped my port break faster. And even if such adaptor were available, they wouldn't be as cheap as £2. Converting SE's jack (idk how it's called) to 3.5 mm is not the same as converting lighting port signal to 3.5 mm. I may be wrong though.

I think the bottom line is, if your equipment is old and was cheap at the time... it's becoming redundant in the way it can keep up with current technology, which it was bound to
