Bradley 59,246
Does anyone know which episode Gaga submitted for award consideration? Do they just judge the actors' performance based on one episode or the whole show? Cause as we all know AHS hasn't even finished airing yet. What if let's say, Gaga's best performance airs on 20th December but the Golden Globe's submission deadline is on 15th December? Do the people in charge submit to-be-aired episodes to the Golden Globes? I was actually asking about the Golden Globes but does it work for the Emmys as well? SLAYing 3,136
I think they submit a series , as opposed to an episode ! They judge on the basis of the overall acting , critical reaction and the ratings. I am sure there must be many other factors for the panel to decide .. They must have concluded on the basis of her acting per episode and not any particular one ! Instagram : saurabhatia_
PunkTheFunk 124,530
I haven't been able to find episode submissions for past Golden Globes so I guess we'll never know? My money is on "Flicker" EDIT: They release episode submission info for the Emmy's, I know that for sure. Actor/actress nominations are based on a single episode, and nominations for Best Drama Series/Comedy Series/etc. are based on multiple episodes (5 or 6 I think)

It's not a popularity contest and different networks have different ratings for different reasons. As for overall acting, the Emmys doesn't work this way. Emmy nominees submit only one episode in which they think demonstrates their best performance to the council. So I assumed the Golden Globes works in a similar way unless I'm wrong... Voltaire 4,531
This is how the Emmy's work: Each actor may submit ONLY ONE episode as an example of his/her best work from the past TV season, and it will be evaluated by juries of other actors and casting directors. Each series submits six episodes. Strategy is key when deciding which episodes to enter. So for an acting Emmy, you submit 1. For an Emmy for the whole series, such as Best Drama Series, you submit 6. And it seems that you can only submit a total of 6 from the show at all, but that isn't stated specifically. The 2015 submissions as an example: Spoiler BEST DRAMA SERIES: "BETTER CALL SAUL" "Uno," "Mijo," "Five-0," "Bingo," "Pimento," "Marco" "DOWNTON ABBEY" "Episode 5.1," "Episode 5.2," "Episode 5.3," "Episode 5.5," "Episode 5.8," "Episode 5.9" "GAME OF THRONES" "Kill the Boy," "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken," "The Gift," "Hardhome," "The Dance of Dragons," "Mother's Mercy" "HOMELAND" "From A to B and Back Again," "Redux," "Halfway to a Donut," "There's Something Else Going On," "13 Hours in Islamabad," "Krieg Nicht Lieb" "HOUSE OF CARDS" "Chapter 27," "Chapter 32," "Chapter 33," "Chapter 37," "Chapter 38," "Chapter 39" "MAD MEN" "Severance," "The Forecast," "Time and Life," "Lost Horizon," "The Milk and Honey Route," "Person to Person" "ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK" "Thirsty Bird," "A Whole Other Hole," "Low Self-Esteem City," "40 OZ. of Furlough," "It Was the Change," "We Have Manners. We're Polite" BEST DRAMA ACTRESS: Claire Danes, "Homeland" - episode "From A to B and Back Again" Viola Davis, "How to Get Away With Murder" - episode "Freakin' Whack-a-Mole" Taraji P. Henson, "Empire" - episode "Pilot" Tatiana Maslany, "Orphan Black" - episode "Certain Agony of the Battlefield" Elisabeth Moss, "Mad Men" - episode "Person to Person" Robin Wright, "House of Cards" - episode "Chapter 32" Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker

andy232000 12,168
only one episode, which is unfair but also good too. unfair cause to really see how good of an actress gaga is you need to see her whole character arc, but also good because 1. chances are that "Flicker" is better than the episodes submitted by her competitors, and 2. It is by far her best episode and it avoids the judges to see how mediocre she was in eps 1-3. (but it also limits them in seeing how good she is at the end). Unless AHS sent the first episodes for their award...which could be a double edge weapon for the same reasons 8understanding her whole arc, but seeing her early acting)

outtahere 336
Hi there-I can tell you what I know as a voting member of Screen Actors Guild (SAG Awards) and from working in the industry. First of all-everyone in Hollywood knows the Globes are a joke. No one takes the nominations or awards seriously because of that. The Emmy's are far more respected in that aspect. We receive screeners and full films on DVD to vote and movie cash to see some of them in the theatre. For TV series we receive digital downloads or studio codes to see the entire nominated series. The Globes do not have this kind of program, and are submitted just one episode, so it is the directors responsibility to select the actors best work to submit. Ryan could have given any scenes, even from the finale which we haven't seen yet. The same goes for talk show awards-just one episode is given because no one could ever sit through a 36 hour season of The Talk or whatever :P Unlike the Academy Awards where all 5,800 motion picture academy members can vote for most of the competitive categories, Emmys winners are decided by just a portion of the 16,000 strong TV academy. The Golden Globes are decided by THE HOLLYWOOD FOREIGN PRESS ASSOCIATION composed of only 93 people. They like to add star power to nominations because revenues of the show are given to entertainment related charities all over the world. The Globes are wacky and shady and to be taken with a grain of salt.
