She was not shading ARTPOP in the new interview...

Watch the first 20 seconds of this video; throughout the era she explained that the album was her 'pain exploding in electronic music'. So when she says the album was riddled in pain, this isn't something new, she's mentioned it before, time and time again. Her hip, the reception to BTW, her tour being cut short, all happened during the recording of ARTPOP...

I felt like she was shading the era, and maybe not saying the album itself sucked. Which is hard to disagree with, no matter what you think of ARTPOP the album, you can't deny the era wasn't executed well.

You end a thread before you start it, that's nice.

But really, her quotes about it in 2014 are more than enough. She said she loves the album and she doesn't give a **** about what people say about it in V so anyone who still doesn't get it after that should just be ignored.

I understood that line as "I put pain on my last record. A lot of pain. I put so much pain on my last record that people didn't understand it." Which I think it's what she's always said about ARTPOP. It is a deep album yet most people keep trying to read as what it is not: a pop album speaking about pop things.

My thoughts exactly. Despite how upbeat and fizzy the album sounds, it deals with some of her darkest moments.

Most people who straight up said she was shading it were trying to wind you all up and it worked.

Regardless of personal opinion on the album, Gaga has been saying she wasn't in the right frame of mind to have made her best her work and that is it. It's great if you like the album or not but that is just simply what she's saying.

Of course, she was not shading it. Some people here are just so bored and desperate, they started believing even Gaga hates ARTPOP and is bashing it. (Similar sentiments were present after her WOTY interview, when she talked about being unable to play the piano, creating synths instead and feeling too talented for what she was expected to do) They were also trying to spur arguments and discussion cause there are some ARTPOP stans that are extremely reactive to negative comments about the album. And they were aiming exactly at seeing such threads. Why feed them?

I love this video and how she explained it all. The VEVO certified Part 4 one also complements it - when she spoke about the origin of ARTPOP - coming from a passionate artist, her outrage because she was trapped in a "cage", and so on. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FT9aLRRXA6k

I've also made a lot of rants back in 2014 when I joined, seeing the ridiculous amount of hate towards the album, but at this point I've given up. Why bother explaining to someone who refuses to hear you? I respect the people who always provide an actual argumentation, cause it's more than fine to dislike the album. But the majority of hatred is unfounded. Some fans were unable to grasp onto the very loose concept of ARTPOP. Not everyone likes such ideas, they'd rather be told exactly what something is than dig deep and find it for themselves. Besides, everyone's been trying to rationalise a thing that originates from pain, emotion and passion. This is impossible. And that's what Gaga acknowledged in the interview - it was too messy/loose and many people just didn't understand it.

Then there are those fans who hate it because somehow their ego got seriously injured during the era's mishaps. But let's just not pay attention to them. The important thing is that we know the truth and accept the stigma around ARTPOP that is here to stay.

LOL, so now ARTPOP isn't a pop album. This is why people troll the rabid ARTPOP defenders, cause they say stuff like this and try to pass off songs such as Jewels N Drugs, Donatella, MANiCURE, Sexxx Dreams, Venus, Fashion! etc etc as transcending pop music and being rich with depth :rip: It's consistently amusing I can't lie.

@OP: The line about the album being full of pain isn't where people perceived the "shade", it's the following line about how you couldn't get to the core of what the album was. Whatever pain she was going through at the time is not effectively conveyed through the record nor is it translated into a coherent or meaningful message.

We all know about the management issues and how rushed she was and how she used the music as an escape instead of confronting her issues and all that. But one of the many criticisms of the album was that it was unfocused and lacking in a clear concept or message or even a reason for existing beyond being a compilation of fun pop songs to serve as potential singles. So Gaga's line in the interview was just her acknowledging that herself, it's nothing complicated.

:applause::applause: Very well-said, especially the last bit. Paraphrasing something Guillermo del Toro once said, it doesn't matter how "flawed" or "perfect" an artpiece is. If you love it, or it speaks to you for some inexplicable reason, that is all that matters.

I think the era was (and continues to be) executed FLAWLESSLY. No tea, no shade. This is what I believe. ARTPOP fulfilled exactly what it was intended to.
