If she seriously said that I officially give up on her omg :air:

Why??? In my oppinion, BTW's production really was tragic, majority of the songs were either unfinished or overproduced :toofunny:

ARTPOP's songs feel whole to me, while there is something in BTW's production that feels like it could use some additional editing, it just doesn't feel like a finished body of work... But that's just how I see it, don't wanna start an argument here :laughga:

She did say BTW's production was "messy" (in a good way), but I don't remember her saying ARTPOP's production was more "polished"  (?)

I don't even know she jumps from description to description :air: From a lack of maturity, techno raver sister of TFM and an explosion of electronic rage to "polished", bye. And I don't get what she means with "messy" either or with "revolution" for that matter.

That's why I'm honestly glad she hasn't yet described anything about LG5 yet :rip: I hope it stays that way.

I find it sad that she's now hating on ARTPOP after it under-performed, not realising that it's in fact the favourite album of thousands of monsters.

She has never stopped defending it though :saladga:

I don't remember her using the word "messy" specifically, but she has said that BTW was purposely noisy and somewhat distorted in certain places. Maybe that's where the "messiness" comes from?

OT: Nowhere in that excerpt does Gaga mention the quality of ARTPOP :air:. What she's saying is that she was broken and hurting while she wrote it, and that at might be hard to interpret it while looking at it from the outside. That doesn't imply that she thinks it's bad, she's just explaining how the nature of LG5 will be different from LG4 :emma:.

This hardly constitutes as shade when it's the truth. ARTPOP was painful for her because she channeled all the pain of her injury, broken promises, and penultimate betrayal into the music and album.

Anyways this tells me she's been working on the album like crazy and Bobby has been playing coy :lolga:

I'm sorry, I just had to :toofunny:

You get the extremes of both sides really.

It's clear that from this and that last interview where she spoke about ARTPOP that she wasn't happy making it, which was evident before the album even came out. She said she recorded ARTPOP completely differently to her usual work and settled to write over beats instead of making it more organically as she normally likes to due to various factors including the label etc. etc.

The problem is you have the ARTPOP Army claiming "no, not a single mess is reflected in the music. The era was bumpy but the music is perfect, there is NOTHING WRONG. STOP LETTING CHARTS INFLUENCE YOUR OPINION!!11 FAKE FANS"

and on the flipside you have people taking what Gaga says out of proportion and trying to make her words imply she thinks the album sucks which she never has.

Really, she's just rationalising why it was criticised so much because she knows she can make something a lot better and the way she likes to actually work.

Anyway, pretty decent interview.

It's obvious Gaga, like usual, is holding her hand pretty close to her chest, especially regarding the new album. I'm glad to hear she's in a better place than before though, it's good she seems to be enjoying making the music.

See? Even Gaga admits ARTPOP was not her best work. Now y'all can stop defending it.

Is this meant to be sarcastic? Surely, you can't be that dense...

Um there is NO shade for ARTPOP lol Don't be desperate to try and twist the meaning of her words and make it look like she hates ARTPOP because that is far from the truth.

She obviously DID record, we saw pictures, she just doesn't wanna say much to hype us. She's been writing.. Well of course, she always writes tbh.

I know the extremes you're talking about :air: Well represented :gaycat:

I'm not even gonna try to figure out what she really means by it 'cause I still can't figure out exactly what the hell happened and the contradictions are just too vivid. I mean, I don't understand how she could claim to change her manner of working so dramatically while she started working on the album literally a week after Born This Way was released.

If, during this period, she seriously couldn't sit at a piano etc. because it made her confront her suppressed emotions (you know, the "you're better than this" quotes) then that also has implications for the BTW era. But she never claimed to feel that miserable during it, either during the era or now when she's talking about ARTPOP in retrospect.. and she did write Princess Die (obviously written at a piano) etc. so I mean.. ?? I'm just so confused about it all. I don't understand the timeline and how it all happened and why.

To me it just seems that she's saying whatever she can to make her next era seem authentic and like a renewal. I mean, hasn't she done that for literally every era so far? :air:"This time I'm gonna show the real me". I mean, Christ, she even said it about C2C :rip: So yeah, I don't know if I even agree with your last sentence because to me it seems plausible that she's just making things up along the way :flop:

The album damaged her image and career, everyone called the album ART"FLOP",  so if she didn't like it i would not be surprised.:lolga:

And it is her album and she can hate it:saladga:

(i don't think that she really hates the album)

It's got nothing to do with the album. It is the media having a dig at every other artist. If the 9th best selling album of the year was a flop then all the others who got tiny fractions of those numbers are supposed to feel beyond depressed and hopeless that is what they were trying to do these people are so vile.
