It's obvious that their intentions are to create a safe, bully free place for LGBT kids to get their education (since most schools are just awful in the U.S.) but you guys have a point. Hopefully it's just a school whose main focus is safety and acceptance for LGBT youth but they don't lock out anyone who's hetero and cis.

Also, how long until we hear parents complaining that their child is being discriminated against because they're straight? A cynical thought, but a realistic one.

I would rather have an inclusive school than a LGBT one but let's face it , if such initiative are taken it's because school can be a living hell for kids and even more if you are LGBT. I remember my school years and beyond bullying you feel ****ing alone because you don't know who is on your side, if your teachers are tolerant enough to not only accept you but also have your back and help you. In my entire school year one woman helped me. One. When other adults saw what was happening. So even if it sucks to have to create a LGBT school maybe it's also an eye opener for other schools to have adults being able to deal with kids and more LGBT youth club because at the end of the day you just need to be accepted for who you are.

you know, I always wanted all the gays to live in one country, so I could never fall in love with a straight guy again, but now all I can think is that it's gonna be a huge target, like this school.

Neanderthals are gonna COME for this school, and I'm kinda nervous for it... I love the idea but damn, I hope no one gets hurt.

I can understand the why, and obviously simply 'promoting acceptance and equality' in current public schools is MUCH easier said than done. Even in today's rapidly changing social climate, public schools with even supposedly "zero-tolerance/discrimination rules" can be entirely ineffective and corrupt at actually protecting the interests of LGBT students. I dont know if this will do much though

I agree. I can see it turned into a **** storm of complaints from certain media outlets and politicians screaming about discrimination and people sending death threats before the school even opens. So while I love the idea, it isn't a good one. Idealistically we should create an environment where every school is free from discrimination and bullying, but I doubt that will happen soon. I think a better idea would to have camps or other such organizations opened to anyone that teach friendship and communication. Kids won't be isolated from the real world but can have a support network to get guidance and find acceptance. It shouldn't be specifically LGBT, but open to everyone and anyone. If all people from different walks of life can find support and acceptance from others of diverse interests or backgrounds that will in turn allow themselves to become more open to different ways of being.  There can be fun activities as well as moments of reflection and discussion.
