The LG5 hype train

ARTPOP was hyped to be the "savior" of Gaga's career after the somewhat "lukewarm" ending of the BTW era. LG5 seems to be headed towards the same amount of hype (if not more) as ARTPOP, even though we don't have a clue what it will be like. And although there are signs that it'll be great (in term of possible collaborators and descriptions we've heard) it is and will always be a big questionmark right upto the point of release. So even though the hype train might be a ton of fun, I think it's wise to slow it down a little and to only build expecations based on the things that we know for sure. So here are a few points that I'd personally like to adress:

- There's no way to indicate when new music will drop, because we don't have any solid info. Any and all theories surrounding a release plan are pure fan speculation. Award shows aren't the be-all, end-all when it comes to promo, so release dates later in the year are very much possible. You only need to look at artists like Adele and Beyoncé (or actually 95% of all music released) to see that buzz can be created without award shows. There's decades worth of music and entertainment to enjoy until LG5 is released, so don't put all your focus on something that might still take a while.

- The hints Gaga has giving about themes, genres and sounds can not be used to predict what an album will sound like. We know from previous projects that Gaga's words aren't always a reliable foundation to build expectations upon. Sure, there have been "hints" towards what we can expect (Disco/Rock, I-Want-Your-Love-esque, RedOne, Ronson, not like ARTPOP, Art of Darkness, etc. etc.), but the truth is that we don't know if any of these supposed influences will actually be on the album. It's important that we don't build expectations for something that hasn't been confirmed, because it will end in dissapointment for some. That said, I think Gaga is doing a wonderful job in terms of choosing what to share and what to withhold. 

- RedOne is not a god (don't crucify me), and his involvement in the album is still variable. A lot of people have put a lot of faith and pressure into the fact that Gaga has been working with RedOne, based on the work that they have done in the past. But RedOne does not have a magic formula with Gaga that will work each and every time. He has produced songs that people don't enjoy, and both him and Gaga have changed a lot since their last big collaboration. Who knows what kind of music they've made so far. And although we know they have shared some studio time, we have never gotten the confirmation that he will have a (big) contribution to LG5. In the end it will be a Lady Gaga album, and not Lady Gaga X RedOne.

- Whether or not the "GP" will support Gaga is not only irrelevant, but also 100% unpredictable. Gaga has had a great year in terms of public response, but we all know that Gaga changes her mind more often than your average goldfish. What's to say that she isn't planning the most controversial and publicly challenging era of her career? And how can we know whether or not the GP is "here for it" when it comes? Pre-era styles and projects have rarely ever been a good indicator of what an actual era will be like or how the GP will respond to it.

I wanna clarify that I'm not saying we shouldn't be excited. Heck, it's a friggin Lady Gaga album so we should definitely be excited. It's also tons of fun to (lightheartedly) speculate about things that might happen or things that you'd like to happen. But try to receive the music on a blank slate, rather than trying to fit it into the expecations that you might build during the "pre-LG5 era". There are so many variables that determine who will and who won't like an album, meaning that it's impossible to predict anything based on a few vague hints and interviews.

So in short: have faith in Gaga, and allow the work speak for itself when it comes. It's not mutually exclusive

(Disclaimer: I'm not trying to tell you guys what to do or pretend I know best, I just wanna help minimizing the meltdowns that will undoubtably ensue over the coming weeks/months. Sorry for the long post )

THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS AAAAAAAAND THIS. I had veeeeeeeeery high hopes when i heard she was working with RedOne again but then i remembered its been quite some time since they worked together in such a big project and who know how much of his stuff we will hear and if its any good!

my excitement for artpоp ended as soon as DJWS revealed that the new album would be full of songs like GH and they would be singles; as for LG5, the OMG leak sounds promising, but we should stay reasonable

Not really, except for the times we saw Gaga in and around the studio (with RedOne and Ronson most noteably), and Gaga's few mentions of the album on Instagram ("LG5 time" and some other occasions of her working on new music). Nothing very substantial or "tangible" though.

Oooh I see what you're saying. Yeah I agree, it's exciting to have pics and hints and everything, but let's keep ourselves in check. Gaga is an artist where it's literally impossible to guess what "the next one" will sound like. It might not be to everyone's taste, but she is unpredictable, and it would be wise for us to not speculate in all of these random directions.

Couldn't agree more with what you said. Especially the part about pre-ARTPOP hype. It will get even worse, cause the thirst Gaga to be "back" after ARTPOP is even bigger than after BTW.

I agree with you.

Some fans are just expecting too big, and when the era failed to its glory, they will blame Gaga and whoever for hyping things up . For example when Intel just announced its collaboration with the Haus, many are already expecting for new material even if they literally said "While Lady Gaga will not perform new material as part of the program"
