The only threat to Lady Gaga is Lady Gaga. All she has to do is sell more than ARTPOP to have a mini comeback. She doesn't have to be the number one selling artist. Beyonce, Katy and Miley all released at similar times. They all had good album sales.

I mean let's take 1998 as an example

The following artists had hit singles in 1998.

Madonna - Frozen and Ray of Light

Mariah Carey - My All

Janey Jackson - Together Again and I Get So Lonely

Britney Spears - Hit Me Baby One More Time

Sarah McLachlan - Adia

Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On

Jewel - Foolish Games

Destiny's Child - No, No, No

The Spice Girls - Too Much and Spice Up Your Life

Brandy and Monica - The Boy Is Mine

What a great year in music.

My point is they all had a great year in music. I don't understand why pop music has become this competitive.

Why does it seem to me that Adele isn't interested in releasing many singles from 25? :emma: Months have passed since the release of 25 and we don't even know if When We Were Young is going to get a music video. I do think Gaga and Adele are going to compete VERY fiercely for awards though. In 2012 they decided to give everything to Adele because they thought Adele was a better vocalist, but now that Gaga has sung jazz with 18-time Grammy winner Tony Bennett and made a tribute to the Sound of Music, I honestly cannot tell who is going to strive in winning awards. Adele is still a very strong vocalist, so is Gaga. I think the competition is fierce as fck.

Gaga is I think a better live performer, but she needs to work very hard on showcasing her vocals in the studio version of her songs this time. Also she needs to deliver something even more unique and bolder than 25.

This is v delusional. She just sold around 300k in a week that was considered a major drop for her. That's amazing lol. More than many pop girls' last first weeks, including Gaga. In the US didn't she only go on 3 shows (Today, Fallon, SNL) and then have her special? That's far from 'every TV show'. The fact that those promo spots happened all at once and it's still doing numbers like this in January which is typically a slow month for sales says the complete opposite of 'fading away'.

Plus Hello is still #1 on radio by a big margin and holding up at #2 on iTunes. WWWY hasn't even been officially released yet and it's doing fine. #25 on iTunes when it only just made Top 40 on radio - no video or endless performances to push it yet, not to mention it's not even on Spotify.

Honestly, that's fading away? Gaga (or any other star right now) would be very lucky to do half as well as Adele's currently doing. I feel like only on this site people would try and devalue that kind of success :rip:

I think the album is fine sales wise, obvi

I just don't think the new singles will perform as well as Hello. Perhaps i worded my comment in the wrong way, I'm not saying Adele is going to flop, I just think the Category 5 hurricane is being downgraded to a Hurricane 2 or 3, which won't be a major threat to Gaga by the time she releases stuff.

And since Adele has stated she's not interested in the whole idea of singles, I feel like they may not put out a lot of promo for them.

i saw in an interview when the album was released that Adele said she's not interested in singles, so that might be what's going on here. Her and her label might not be putting the extra effort in cuz the album is selling itself. The point of singles is to increase album sales by sampling part of the album. Kinda hope that's the case so Gaga can have her spotlight.

25 is a megahit and that's a fact. But I do agree with you that Adele's upcoming singles are still doubtful to slay as well as Hello. Judging based on When We Were Young's chart position, people are over the period of "ADELE IS BACK!" excitement. And I actually don't agree with When We Were Young being chosen as the second single, if I were on Adele's team, I'd pick Million Years Ago, Send My Love (To Your Lover) and Water Under The Bridge as singles instead.

That'd actually be rather beneficial to Gaga, but I love Adele and I feel bad for her fans who want to see music videos and live performances from her. She's basically donating longevity for other artists like Gaga and Rihanna though.

Well yeah I doubt they will do as well as Hello but that's to be expected when the album has already shifted 12 million copies or whatever it is now lol. I see what you mean but I still think the singles will do pretty well.

Katy took a nosedive, too! And with Taylor swiping her spot as the "good pop girl" and Katy not developing much right now, I don't know if Ms. Perry can last too much longer.

Well.. careful.

PRISM marked her highest debut opening to date and her tour for it was her most successful one to date too. Apart from some singles flopping (I think Roar and Dark Horse outshine her failures - DH was her most successful single ever, Roar is her third most successful one) I don't think she's shown signs of deteriorating yet. Katy's a girl that, on the whole, has been rising in success.

I think Katy will stay her biggest competitor, though it actually all depends on the direction Gaga goes in. I don't think anyone would pretend they're actual competition anymore if they don't look/sound like they're doing the same thing (being dance-pop and a high focus on extravagant performance/costumes) anymore.

It will be an interesting year for sure

Mister Gaga

It depends on LG5, lead single and album, release date. I think that if she releases around March-May, she won't be threatened by anyone (although Rihanna could release ANTi in the next weeks, and Adele is still a top of the game; but they're not problem to Gaga). If she releases in August, ala ARTPOP, she'll have to face Katy, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, probably Britney, Lorde...

I think it's pretty clear that she's going to go full-steam ahead when it comes to showcasing her talent and being a "real artist", and that she won't look back. She wants to be in the Adele/Bruno lane, and after the non-stop praise she's gotten for her vocals and performances over the last year+ I don't think she'll put herself in a position to be easily criticized again, i.e. making vapid and heavily electronic dance-pop.

It didn't help that in 2013 she released alongside Katy when she was at her weakest point in terms of artistry, execution and maturity. It added gallons of fuel to that fire because she was essentially in the same lane as Katy as an artist. I'd imagine that even if they released around the same time this year there will be such a seismic gap in the levels of talent, performance skills, maturity and quality between them that any comparisons would be largely silenced before they could gain real traction.

Whispering

We don't even know when LG5 is being released, much less when all these other artists will release their albums. I imagine most artists are going to hold off until after September 30th of 2016 to avoid being in the same Grammy eligibility year as Adele.
