Did they ever explain why Gaga's character was called the Countess? They never showed her being an actual countess....this has always bothered me. Maybe it will be explained in the last 2 episodes?

The vampire Dracula was Count Dracula, so I'm putting my money on that she's a descendant of his :stalkga:

Her character is loosely based on an actual countess (and serial killer): Elizabeth Bathory.

And also maybe because she inherited the virus through Valentino who contracted it from the guy who made Nosferatu. So maybe the term is Sentimental to her. She is the Modern Equivalent of Count Dracula.

Elizabeth Bathory was also named Countess Dracula so there's already a connection between her and Dracula outside of AHS. More interestingly, "The Countess", a biographical film about Bathory was released in 2009. Ryan might have seen it.

Probably a combination of all things.

Yes, thats from the metaperspective but from the in-universe perspective we dont know why is she called a Countess.

Although iirc only Iris and Liz have done it so perhaps it's them referencing the vampire archetype

Its like how we call her "Mother Monster" :hor: Her Fanbase consists of Liz, Iris, Ramona and Donovan.

I don't see why there should be an in-universe perspective at all. The show makes several historical references and "The Countess" is obviously one of them. Without that nickname only people well versed in history would ever think of Bathory.

I can't think of any good in-universe reason for anyone calling her "countess".

It's basically a title she gave herself. She was an actress, it's in her blood to play roles and be basically whatever she wants. Also, this is a cultural reference to real-life Countess Bathory, on whom The Countess character is loosely based.
