The way she utilizes her voice can be polarizing for some. Though, from what I've seen it's definitely her attitude that turns them off from her. I mean, she referred to Gaga as an "it" way back when.

Another example is her Blender interview where she talked about her peers, but instead of speaking in general, she called them out by name, this is addressed around @ 0:19 in this vid for example:

I think she's mellowed out over the years and has become much more diplomatic when it comes to PR and interviews, but the internet doesn't forget/the north remembers etc. You know how that goes.

I rooted for Xtina even back then and thought it was really unfair that she was overshadowed and dogged by comparisons and rivalries, but she really didn't make it easy for herself by saying all that stuff.

Anyway, I'm still curious in checking out any new material from her even though despite her sheer talent, more and more I often feel like her music is not really for me. I loved her debut & Stripped. Back to Basics was nice, and she looked amazing, but the music just didn't quite do it for me. Lotus was eh.

I think it doesn't help that she takes long breaks between albums - which is a sustainable release schedule for successful male artists like Timberlake, or someone people go batshit crazy about like Taylor and Adele, but for most modern day female pop artists, it's not the greatest idea IMO. Plus, putting out new albums or EPs can help build up interest and a fanbase because there are always bound to be at least a couple amazing tracks there that people love even if someone doesn't normally **** with you (see Carly and Selena etc.)

What an awful era for us Xtina stans, the album is just a bunch of rejected demos other artist didn't want ('Your Body' was offered to Kesha, 'Just A Fool' to Pink, 'Army Of Me' originally by a French artist), she released one single she didnt perform once, and the whole era ran for three months with about a month of actual promo.

Hopefully the next one is better.

WTF... that's just tragic. who knew xtina stooped so low

I like her but she has a long history of thinking she's above others and being terrible to them, including artists like...

Mary J. Blige: Xtina made Mary J. kiss her hand when meeting her.

Mariah Carey: Xtina talked about how Mariah is a sloppy drunk and shaded Mariah's history of mental health issues.

Avril Lavigne: Avril has stated that when she met Xtina, Xtina was really mean to her.

Britney Spears: In 2004, Christina said in an interview that Britney acts like trailer trash. She added, "I can't believe that girl bought her own engagement ring! I've seen it, up close. It looks like she got it on QVC."

Lady Gaga: In an interview in Nov. 2008 Xtina was asked about the Gaga comparisons and she said, "You know, that’s funny that you mention that. This person [Lady Gaga] was just brought to my attention not too long ago. I’m not quite sure who this person is, to be honest. I don’t know if it is a man or a woman. I just wasn’t sure."

And I'm sure theres more I'm not getting.

OMFG!! I didn't know she was such a bitch

Because she's been "flopping."

Ironically I like the music from those "flops" better than her other albums. :air:

I think she comes off as rude and entitled/arrogant. Truthfully though, I think she had more talent than Britney and I can understand why she'd be bitter that Britney got more attention and praise for her contributions to pop culture. Britney is going down as a Legend and Christina (as far as I can tell) is not, despite the fact that she seems to be a better musician.

Not that all of her personality and whatnot is related to Britney- I don't think that. But I think she knows she's got more talent than people tend to give her credit for.

I also could be totally wrong because I've never really followed Xtina's career or paid much attention to her overall. :flop:

Oh, holy ****. I stand corrected; she doesn't just "come off as rude and entitled/arrogant," she really is. It's a shame because I would be willing to bet she'd be WAY more "legendary" if her attitude was better.

She was the Azealia of that decade, I guess.

It's all to do with the attitude, definitely. I never paid attention to all that stuff back in the day but around the time of Bionic, when she started to say all that mean stuff about Gaga (she was clearly just jealous that she did similar stuff to what she was going to do and did it better), that I began to see that it was true. And then I researched all her shady moments and realised that she's been like this for years. I remember all the way back in 2000, when she'd only been famous for a year, Westlife claimed that she had them removed from their seats at some bar because she wanted to sit there and called her a "snot." Her manager claimed this never happened (and even said that it was so predictable that an act with no talent would insult an act who did have talent) but...why would they lie? It's such a random incident that it must have happened and of course managers will bend the truth to keep up that image. I do remember back when she hosted the 2003 EMAs that she was really haughty and came off so badly (especially that dartboard backstage with Kelly Osbourne's face in the middle). Back then, I thought she was a bad ass bitch, now she just comes off rude and obnoxious (which is very easy to confuse with being a bad ass bitch, particularly when you're young and haven't fully grasped how good impressions get you far). I do remember that infamous Blender interview. She seemed to slam everyone, accusing Britney of lipsynching and being too virginal in interview and so on. Even if these things are true, she shouldn't have said them in such a horrible way. She continued to be shady about the EMAs as well. When asked if she'd ever collab with Britney or Madonna again, she said no to Britney because the one performance was good enough "and Madonna...10 years ago, maybe?" Then she was asked about the Me Against The Music video and did a lot of pausing before saying she couldn't be too truthful and then said it was nothing that hadn't been done before. It's like, woman, you're an artist, you should be supporting other artists! It's music critics jobs to do the nastiness!

in the music world, the public can handle a rude man but they can't handle a rude woman. It's sexist but true. Even if they do handle them, it'll only be for a bit. Christina's a lot better now and keeps her thoughts to herself but I don't think it's enough to erase all those years of nastiness in the public's memory. Thing is, I don't even know why she's like this. She had a very humble beginning with being raised in a home with domestic violence and being bullied at school. People who have gone through that tend to be nice and gracious. So, my only theory is that she had all that success with her debut and it just went straight to her head and never left. Like I said, very rare for that to happen to someone who had such a difficult upbringing but what other theory is there?

I remember hearing rumors of a diva attitude in the early beginning. I always chocked it to the way she was treated at home and at school, as in trying to mask her pain behind an attitude (being "tough" and rejecting people before they could reject her). You also have to factor in the fact that she was always pitted against Britney. She and Britney were at the tippy top of the Pop Princess food chain in the early millennium, and even though it was universally felt that Xtina had more talent (vocally), Britney definitely was winning/won the popular vote every year. I also think I remember hearing of them having a bit of a rivalry during their Mickey Mouse club days but it was kind of a friendly competition, but maybe she got sick of the comparisons? She made a major transformation between her Genie days to her Dirrty era, where-as Britney's was much more gradual. I always wondered if something happened at that point. I have an old magazine from Teen People (?) that came out I think after Dirrty and her MTV show (Behind the Music or some promo segment for Stripped) in which she was very late to an interview, then basically took the interviewer with her to Target (?) didn't speak much the entire time, then later appoligised and said she was guarded or such, but remained fairly aloof for the rest of the interview. I remember the Kelly feud, but to be fair Kelly ripped on a lot of people, especially if they were blonde popstars. I think her brother, Jack, was on good terms with Xtina though. I know Christina and Eminem had some sort of ugly feud.

I personally never had a problem with her though, I always thought her past made her the way she was. And I like a lot of her music, though I think she overdoes it a bit with her vocals. I'm actually surprised  though she hasn't had as strong a career trejectory as Britney though, I think everyone at the time she came out she was going to be the next Whitney (Britney was going to be the next Madonna, so the magazines seem to say). Granted, she has had an enormous amount of  musical success, but going back and looking at the numbers and stuff, it does seem that things got a bit bumpy for her. I never knew people considered Back to Basics to be a "come-back" album. However looking back, Britney was EVERYWHERE, and Xtina would pop up here and there, so I don't know.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

I don't know if fan bases really hate her or just like teasing her. She slays when she has a good song and when people get a lot of praise in the beginning based on talent people tend to hate. You know because they have none. :hor:
