AHS: I found the real Countess!

I did some little research to find out if the Countess is actually fictional or if she was inspired by a reallife persona and guess what guys ... here's a little read from

cemeteryguide.com

One of the greatest and most enduring Hollywood legends concerns the mysterious "Lady in Black" who visits Valentino's crypt each year on the anniversary of his death. The visits began on the first anniversary when the woman, clad in black from head to toe, including a heavy black veil, entered the mausoleum, left roses at Valentino's crypt, and departed without saying a word. But who was the "Lady in Black"? And what was her relationship with Valentino?

According to the most popular and enduring version of the legend, Valentino was friends with a woman whose daughter, Ditra Flame, was seriously ill in a hospital. Valentino went to visit the girl and brought her a single red rose. "You're not going to die at all," Valentino told her. "You are going to outlive me by many years. But one thing for sure -- if I die before you do, you please come and stay by me because I don't want to be alone, either. You come and talk to me."

Shortly after Valentino's visit, little Ditra got better. When Valentino died a few years later, she remembered his request and brought a bouquet of red roses to his crypt every year on the anniversary of his death, but she never spoke about it, and never told anyone her story. The press noticed her visits, and widely publicized the story of the mysterious "Lady in Black."

Future Lover

I thought this was going to be another thread about Elizabeth Báthory. It seems like Ryan drew from a number of inspirations for this season. History in pop culture. A reverse Murphian expedition.

I haven't watched this season of AHS in a while so I don't understand the relation to the story but it was an interesting read for sure.

Thanks for posting!

Wow, that's pretty cool. I had no idea Valentino and Natacha Rambova had actually existed :rip: Just shows again how Ryan Murphy uses real stories to feed his shows.

They did and it's actually scary how alive they are in AHS

I really love how Murphy distorts reality to create his own version or truth of the events. The way he did with Murnau, the director of Nosferatu, being the one who brought the virus to Hollywood. I think it's definitely the season that draws the most from reality.

Wait, didn't they say that Lady in the Black was actress Pola Negri?

Nope. People just believed it was her because she collapsed at her wedding. They also mentioned that the Lady could also be some otherworldly creature.

I agree that the addition of reality into the canon of AHS is pretty cool. I mean, Anne Frank at Briarcliff could have been absolutely awful, but imo that turned out amazing.

Wow, the similarity!

EDIT (when I reread that it looks v snarky and rude :laughga: What I meant was the similarity between Finn Witrock (sp?) and the real Valentino. It's very impressive)

You haven't watched American Horror Story before, yes? The writers always try to incorporate some stuff to the plot of the season. That's not the real Countess, dear.

@ARTPOPthatbooty Bravo Great work :applause:

I LOVE this season, and I'm a AHS fan from the S1

The whole Valentino-Countess story is perfect, that also explains why the Countess's lovers look alike to Valentino. she was trying to find her true love.

and people said it was because Ryan Murphy liked that kind of men :yay:
