That's what frustrates me. The wonder that the internet brought is that everyone can enjoy cultural products more than ever before. The industry should adapt to that. You prefer the industry to be stuck in time. I think that's ludicrous, especially in a time where people don't even need to be signed to a label to have their music become a hit on streaming services. What's the worst that can happen? Movies are making more than they ever made, books are still immensely popular despite online reading possibilities, even music sales are still up and running (vinyl experiencing a rebirth), the entertainment industry is being enjoyed by more people than ever before. People in the industry will just have to be inventive enough to skip past "illegal" enjoyment of culture. And there's plenty of room for that! Invest in new unique technologies to be used in cinema's, theatres, concert halls,... get people back to paying tickets, back to paying albums,... but you better make damn sure that it's worth the price. I can't count how many album packages I bought that dramatically disappointed me for a complete lack of effort. So no, I don't feel guilty at all. Even if the industry would completely fall apart, humanity would be fine. Culture is in our blood, so is expression. Bands would still be there, writers would still be there, artists wouldn't go extinct. So why care, I ask you, about keeping the industry, built on the idea of exploiting audiences, safe in its dominion to the detriment of your own resources? StrawberryBlond 14,621
Haha, this is one of those rare instances where I love Adele! I totally get where she's coming from. When an artist is horrible, it just taints an album with a bad smell for me, no matter how good it is, and I can't support them all the way. I mean, when I review albums, I'm always unbiased. I rate the music, not the personality, even with the likes of Chris Brown (I rated his X album 3/5, btw). If I downvote his work, it's because I just don't like the song, nothing to do with him. However, if the artist draws paralells to the crime they did before, they're making me judge them on their personalities too, so I have no option but to take it into account. That was the primary reason why I rated Rihanna's Unapologetic a 1/5 - the music perhaps wasn't that bad to warrant such derision but what was the dealbreaker for me was how much she boosted up Chris to be some sort of angel with broken wings who just needed to be loved. Then she had the audacity to put a feature of him on a song about how their (abusive and toxic) relationship was nobody's business. It was disgusting and made my skin crawl. Sorry, I just can't support someone who sends out such repellant messages. I don't want to fund their already stuffed bank accounts either. Because when we do that, we are sending the message to record companies that this is the music we want them to make. They don't wonder if it's guilty pleasure or ironic purchases, they just see the dollar signs and say "People want it, let's make more of it!" Just now, jojuun said: Exactly how I feel about the likes of Chris Brown and R. Kelly. Like a few of their songs, refuse to have their abusive selves in my iTunes Library. Was just thinking the same thing. I don't know how anyone can buy their music regardless of its quality. Doesn't it not make them feel dirty? How would they feel if one of their female relatives/friends was the victim of these men? Wouldn't they not be disgusted that the public are supporting an abuser? We wouldn't support anyone else who did bad things, why do we give celebrities a free pass? When someone in our world does something unspeakably bad, we don't want to see them again, look at them again, in no way think of them ever again. But when it's a celebrity, it's a case of "Oh, they've learned their lesson and don't we all make mistakes and deserve second chances?" F**k outta here. I don't even see how exactly that negates the massive amount of people involved in a massive consumption of cultural products today and how it negates all of my other points. What a cop-out. So what's your solution then? Raising incomes or lowering prices? Well, streaming effectively lowers prices for enjoying music so why are you defending the buying of now apparently overpriced albums? ItsTommyBitch 12,640
I don't see this is as that bad... most people i'd think dont buy albums of people they dislike Why is that controversial? Also, you can believe in streaming's benefits and not partake in it I buy albums of people I like and or stan for and stream albums I don't own, simple as that Adele can not stream all she wants and she can not buy albums from people she dislikes all she wants. I think some people are looking too much into it or maybe im not seeing something important 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから
