Having commercial success is just an excuse to call somebody relevant. The truth is celebrities don't need to sell a lot to be seen as popular or important. Popularity is based on the audience's whims and there's nothing more to it.

Beyonce is seen as successful and legendary for whatever reason. Just because. She has charisma and portrays herself as successful so the world rolls along with it.

Oh, I'm just visiting-

What? She's huge. Her last album was bigger than Gaga, Katy and Rihanna's and she is endlessly praised and adored by the GP. If that doesn't make her a "main pop girl" then I'm guessing only Taylor and Adele should be considered as such since they're the only ones I can think of that have outdone her...

I think she's more of a talent now, than a mainstream girl, in relation her first three eras.

I think Taylor and Adele's success has really trumped Beyonce, and make it seem not as impressive as it used to seem.

I mean two years later,

Beyonce has sold about 2.3 million in the US.

One year later,

1989 has sold about 5.5 million in the US

And three weeks later ,

25 has sold 5.2 million copies in the US

While I don't think Beyonce's talent is overrated, I think her image is.

Acclaim is not defined by success. When have you last heard a lou Reed Song on the Radio? Yet he's one of the Most important musicians ever

Right, and when someone has to steal songwriting credits to be liked it's really too far

She's successful, makes radio friendly music, conventionally beautiful, doesn't involve herself in drama, she seems to be a good person minus the destiny child days. I'm not a fan of her music though and I don't think her vocals are as impressive as people make them seem to be but different strokes for different folks.

Her last hit was not 5 years ago. At least in the US, everyone knows Drunk in Love, Partition, and Feeling Myself. Additionally Flawless and 7/11 were minor hits.

Drunk in Love was a hit, but Partition and Feeling Myself do not constitute being called hits. Feeling Myself didn't even make the top 100 this year, of Billboard's Top 100 songs of 2015 and Partition was the 95th biggest song of 2014, which really means nothing lol. If you were going to make the case for any of the others being hits, it would be 7/11, which was the 61st biggest song of 2015. It would be considered on par with songs like "You Know You Like It" by DJ Snake,  "The Heart Wants What It Wants" by Selena, "Girl Crush" by Little Big Town and "Slow Motion" by Trey Songz, which surround it on the chart. So if you consider those songs hits, then 7/11 is a hit.

She's an icon. She's actually very different and unique; a diva, fierce, brave, an excellent dancer and singer... Not all popstars are like that.

That is interesting, I never considered that before.

Thanks for the explanation :)

I think the real question is why are so many people on this site so bitter that Beyonce is universally adored and legendary

What is it with people on GGD denying Beyoncé's impact, it's like they can't stand that she's successful. I don't like Justin, Selena, Demi, 1D, Miley, but I don't delude myself and make threads pretending they're not as big as they are.
